Car has a new battery (4 mos old), gauge lights, headlights, car buzzer, and you can hear fuel pump running when you turn ignition, but car won't start......doesn't even click. battery checked and has full charge. It is a 5 speed manual transmission, 1997 2 door Pontiac Sunfire. Could it be the ignition?

could be the clutch position switch as well as the ignition. if it cans "see" the clutch in, it wont even try to start.

there is a clutch position switch that lets the starter turn over, a safety switch to prevent the car from being started while the transmission is engaged. it may have gone bad.

A good way to test both is push start it, if it starts then that would mean nothing wrong with motor or clutch sensor and verywell might be your ignition now if it don't start then it could be sensor, ignition or motor have to go through and find what it is!

it could also also be the starter, the solenoid could have gone bad, i have a 96 and i just replaced the starter cause the solenoid went bad, the clutch switch is an easy problem to fix, by pass it
