Could this server be any slower?

What is it with the server for this site? :screwy: It took 5 minutes to get about anywhere. My internet connection is 2.5 Megabts per second cable.

Even on my other computers, same....

I know what you mean. I have regular dial-up connection and my computer can't load any page on this site without having a huge error. It might be from all the stupid animated ads at the top of the screen. Those take a long time to process. Pretty stupid.

unfortunately, those go hand in hand. those animated ads and banners help pay for the server and the site.

its hard when your an extremely popular website.

I doubt it's the ads... The page would load but the picture would just be pending, besides those pics aren't very big. It's the actual forum server.

Good thing you werent here this time last year than. If you think the server is slow now, You would go crazy. I don't know, runs fast enough for my purposes.

as soon as I click on the links it goes directly to it within like 3 seconds. sometimes it takes about 30 seconds.

I concur. 95% of the time this site loads pages just like that for me, and if it's slow, I don't blame it on the site, it's probably my internet, being cable the signal could have gotten interrupted or something may have happened. Just because your internet's speed is fast doesn't meant it's very efficient at loading pages.

It's almost always instant for me, or close to it.

Occasionally slow but works fine for me 95% of the time.

About 95% of the time it takes about 2 seconds for each page to load, every now and then I get an error page.. I have to say I am Quite Satisfied for the amount of traffic this site sees.

I'm here at work on dialup at a whopping connection speed of ( /me hovers cursor over icon...24.0 Kbps  ) and it usually loads fine for me.

:iagree: .... and if you don't like the speed, you can take Oz's advice or pay for more AF server space out of your pocket.

The sites been humming along really well know for almost the last year. I'd wager that the majority of slow downs people have nothing to do with this site. The most likely culprit is to much shit on their PC (or whatever) to their ISP being bogged down.

I know it cant be a problem with spyware, etc... on my computer because I have a Mac, no viruses or spyware. Most of the time the site works, but sometimes takes 5 minutes or more to load a page. :eek7:

My old network server was a Pentium 133Mhz with 16MB RAM and Win 95 "Internet Explorer Edition". Worked well; but was slow at times. It has been replaced (I still have the computer) with a HP Kayak XA 400Mhz with 64MB RAM and Windows 2000 Pro. Wow; it's a lot faster....

Hmmm, seeing as how you'd like to improve upon this site, why not donate some money to igor then. Send some monthly payments if you say the site is too sluggish for your massive bandwidth hog of a computer. Site loads fast and fine for me

It's called Domo Kun, it's a Japanese thing i think... not sure what though

Edit:

Definitions of Domo kun on the Web:

Domo-kun is the mascot of Japan's NHK television station, appearing in several short stop-motion sketches. He acquired his name during an episode of his show in which a TV announcer said, "Domo Konichiwa," (roughly translated to English as "very much hello") Domo kun is known to fart repeatedly when in a bad mood.

HHHHHHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmm,, did a random test [while in-process of d/l'ing three programs] to check out this server's speed.

Results~~~~~~~~

Accessing this forum off the home page 2 seconds

Accessing this forum from another forum within AF, 5 seconds.

Accessing this forum off My Favorites 3 seconds

Closing out this forum and accessing back off desktop 5 seconds

Clicking links, link-page access within average 4 seconds [though different link-pages display-loaded at differing speeds] :shakehead

Closing this forum out, accessing desktop to other forum of AF [GA forum] and getting back here, 5 seconds.

Clicking edit/delete of this post to add this little piece, 4 seconds.

I guess it is kinda slow, sheesh. :loser:

Notate>>>>>>>>>> Above results were obtained at a single time only, without further testing. Above results were obtained while the system was also d/l'ing three programs at the same time. Above results may not be typical for other systems. :grinno:

Conclusion~~~~~~~~Get a Dell. And my Dell is the base model with only 256 RAM [but I cheat cuz I have two freebie RAM optimizers working in the backside of my dark force], so go find a good used Chevy Vega or Ford Pinto, better speed than your system, and about as reliable. :lol2:

fook finding pictures. I can do it MYself!! Piss... Off... Noob... ;)

By the way, way to make friends here at your first week of AF. It's like kindergarden. The only difference is that we're about to string you up and burn you at the stake. Kindergarden has teachers, so the kids can't really do that because chances are they'll get caught.
