98 gst, a few mods
This past saturday i installed a turboxs standard manual boost controller. I didnt finish up all the way (didnt cap off some nipples, etc) but today i finished everything up. I took off the intake up to the turbo, capped off the nipple on the turbo. Connected a hose from the wastegate nipple to the bottom mbc nipple. Disconnected all stock boost solenoid hoses and capped off. Capped off nipple on intake. Cut line between intake manifold and type s bov, connected t fitting back to both and then to side nipple of mbc. reconnected intake, plugged back in mas. started my car (had to jump because my battery isnt doin very well), check engine light came on, stayed on, revved engine and smoke came out. when revved, i heard no bov or turbo spool at all. im pretty sure i connected everything right. havent installed boost gauge yet but i turned mbc only twice counterclockwise, should be about 12 psi. i know thats about stock range, but it should be running normal. what do you think is going on? did i do something wrong in the install. the only thing not perfect is the line (fuel line so would be thicker) running from the bottom of mbc to the wastegate is a bit too big but its zip tied for now so it should be pretty tight. that wouldnt cause all this would it?

first, get a boost gauge! you're not going to know what psi you're running until you do! you can't just guess that turning the BC knob a certain number of times is a certain psi. they are very sensitive. secondly...do you have the correct hoses from the BC to the correct spots? you didn't mix the two up, did you? that's what happened when i installed mine...accidentally hook the two hoses up wrong and no matter how much i turned the knob it always read 10psi. as for no bov noise...make sure the line running from the intake manifold to the bov is still connected. this is the line you T'd, correct? you should have cut it in half, stuck the T into each line, from the bov, and from the intake mani...and then the one for the BC goes into the bottom of the T. make sure this hose is fully connected. you don't want compressor surge :) look at all of your lines and caps. check, recheck, then do it all over again to make sure everything is where it should be. and get a boost gauge!

alright, i wont guess then, all i was doing was revving it. i do have a boost gauge, just havent installed it yet. how hard is that to do, including mounting it in the pillar, etc.? all the hoses go to the correct spots. the bov-intake man. line is correct. all the caps are on. i hear the bov when i rev it. just not very much, maybe the boost isnt up enough, but ill chill out til the gauge is in. i had a leak in my r adiator hose, i think this is why smoke came out maybe? or maybe just the nipples i didnt have capped off. oh well thanks for the help

hooking up a boost gauge and mounting it is really easy...there are instructions all over the internet on how to do it.... try www.vfaq.com first
