Previous owner (can't reach) put in new alternator. Now a new battery won't keep a charge.

Welcome to the boards! Always nice to have another "Burgher".
Have someone check the battery first. On second thought always check the belt and tensioner first. The battery might be history from the alt problems. Full charge and a load test will tell. Advance, Autozone, and more I'm sure will do it for free. After that double check the alt output, then all connections, and lastly look for a fuse/fusebil link.
If you are convenient to the city I have to recommend.

When I worked at the exxon station we sent all our starter and alt work there. No bay or removal or installation but he will come out check your battery, alt, etc on the car and give the scoop. First time I used him my starter needed a bendix. Pulled the starter, took it over, 5 minutes later out the door with a functioning starter for less than I could buy the bendixs for.
Was there last week with the starter out of my 98 f150. The wire from the solenoid to he starter just disintegrated. $20.00 for new brushes and holder in under ten minutes. (he's gettin slow after 20 years).
You cant do better and even if you need new his prices are excellent and parts are 10 times better than the big chains.

did you put a multi meter on your battery terminals while running to see if your altenator is giving you charge.
