Okay, thanks. Surprisingly, the older kind of sports car look (Older Mazda RX-7's and 300ZX Turbos) is growing on me so I'm thinking about getting one of the older 300ZX Turbos (Also because there much cheaper) and are they very different from the more current ones (1990+)? Do you still recommend it?
Thanks!
if the old sports car look is growing on you, then you have got to check out the late 80's supras, i love the way those look

The only thing I now about the RX-7s, and I dont even know if it applies to the pre FDs, is that you cant just take it out, thrash it all day long like its going outa style, the drop it in your garrage and chill. Im not saying they arent reliable, I've just heard taht you need to take care of them.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, I've test driven the ones that I can. I just got finished taking out my friends MR2 Turbo and you guys were right, it is really hard to handle.
I really like the 3000GT but I heard that the 300ZX/240SX are way better because the 3000GT is way to heavy.
TheStang - I'll definately check out the late 80's Supra's, I just hope there not to expensive.
Thanks!

the 80's RX-7 is pretty reliable. i would say its only alittle less reliable then the 3rd gen supra. plus it looks waaay better and handles waay better. you can get those 2 for pretty cheap, out of the two i would rather get the rx-7 though.

well the difference really is whether the engine is n/a or turbo, but basically you drive the rx7 like a regular car.
you have to change the oil more often (because on the stock system, oil is injected in the combustion chamber, but you can remove that feature and put the oil in with your gas), you cant just drive it (to move it across the street or someting) and shut if off cold because the engine will flood. you shoudlnt run it hard till its warmed up. the turbo cars just need to be cooled down after you run them hard. you may want to upgrade the radiator but otherwise they'll last a while.
FD's are mostly the same but they have more critical cooling issues (the rotary engine itself produces alot of heat, not to mention the twin turbo system). a write-up on reliability mods for the FD: http://robrobinette.com/reliabiltiy.htm
the only other thing i can think of is that at extreme power levels (like 450+hp), tuning is really important and some mistakes can cost you an engine (but they are fairly easy to rebuild, as there are only 3 moving parts in it).
you gotta love the car though. its not like an old corolla or something, you cant beat on it. but its a rewarding car because the engines have good power, they have great chassis and handling.

ma70 supra vs fc3s rx7 is no contest. rx7 all the way.
if you were talking the jza80 vs the fd then it'd be hard.

MA70? FC3S? English please! :) Anyways, so the RX-7 is more a car for someone with a lot of experience that likes to tinker with there car?
Would you guys agree that the late 80's Supra is a good reliable car though? I really like it and I may be getting one as I've seen them VERY cheap.
Thank you so much!

ma70 is the third gen turbo supra from the 80's. the FC3S is the 80's rx- turbo that you are also looking at
the JZA80 is the 4th gen supra TT like that one you see from the movies, the FD3S is the 3rd gen RX-7 TT like the one you see from the movies.
theres really no major problems wit the 3rd gen supras except for the head gasket problems that i've been hearing about, and the fact that they weight like a 3400 lbs.

i was lookin around on ebay, check this out, i really like it

If you can find one fore really cheap, which I doubt but I dunno, I'd go for a MkIV Supra. Of course the cheapest one I've seen has 145k miles, is NA, and still runs for about $15k. I say go with a Thrid gen supra or RX-7. Not to incredibly fast bone stock, but once your ready to go for power, its ready. But the MkIVs...2JZ-GTE goodness...

Thanks you guys.
TheStang - I'm not to fond of the back of that one but I still like most of the body.
Anyways, so now I'm looking at the 240SX, MA70, and the FC3S. I'm kind of leaning towards the MA70 and the FC3S since it seems like a pretty unique car that none of my friends have.
Anyways, out of those 3, which do you think would be the most reliable and user friendly? Also, let's say I find a really good deal on the other 2 (The 2 that you didn't pick as the most reliable), would you still recommend I go for it? Are they still good cars?
Sorry for all of the questions.
Thank you!

i've never worked on FC3S. but i know the MA70's engine bay is a big mess. the easiest car to work on hands down from my personal experience out of those 3 would be the 240sx. reliablity is bout the same for all of them. if your into that unique pop up head lights look then i guess you can go for supra and rx-7. they are afterall a higher class of cars then a 240sx.

DriftKid - If you don't mind me asking, how do you like your RX-7? I think I'm pretty much set on the RX-7 or the Supra (Turbo?) I just need to decide which would be better for me?

i hate 80's sport cars. they looked good back in the 80's but you look at them today, they're ugly as sin. its true because 70's sport cars look nice if you look at them today, 60's sport cars look nice if you look at them today, 90's sport cars look better then most of today's sport cars. but the 80's.......... :puke:

hmmm those guys praise the Z31 so much for reliablity, yet they all agree that the other choices are faster and easier to mod. isn't that what i was saying the whole time? the Z31 is the worse Z ever made, but that doesn't make it a bad car in general. yes they are very reliable cars, but they're just too damn ugly. well i guess if your going for the sleeper look, be my guest, but i would never take that car over my S14. so that analogy that the Z guys made about us either being jealous, or ricers or is uninformed is bs.

i think the z31 was fairly ugly.
i'd take the supra over it.
honestly man, i would just find a 240sx. you can find a s13 in good condition thats inexpensive. i'm looking at one for 2k and it has a good body, runs and only has like 100000 miles. Its a 91 i think.

what they say about it being farely easy to mod is true though. for the turbo model, you need a larger intercooler, boost controler, exhuast, and intake to run low 14's all day. all this can be had for around 2K. the car itself will cost dirt cheap since nobody wants them. so dollar for dollar the Z31 is a better car up to a certain point but making around 250whp is as high as its goin to go before you need to do some work to the fuel management.

Okay, thanks. I think I'm just going to have to go with that "sleeper" look but if I ever get real serious and get the urge to run sub-14's, I'll know what to get. :) Also, I'm sorry for assuming when you said the Z31 was the worst Z made. I thought you meant that it just had horrible reliability, horrible performance, basically I thought you meant it sucked all around.
I was thinking about it last night, and with my experience, I just don't think I'll have to ever go under sub-14's at the moment. And since my competition is a Ford SVT Lightning and a Honda Prelude, I don't think I'll have any problems.
Also, I saw a guide for upgrading a Z31T. I think the guy spent $760 or something. I don't have the URL for the guide at the moment because I'm not at my computer but when I get home I'll post the link. One thing I do remember is that he ran 14.1.
Thanks!

i know what guide your talkin about, but those prices are from like 5-6 years ago when things are alot cheaper. theres no way you can get an exhuast for 300 dollars anymore. my apexi n1's costed me almost 600 dollars. and mine is considered cheap, my friends have to pay $1000 for their turbo back exhuast for their EVO and STi.

you have the n1 dual (like a dual exhaust) or the one with 2 tips on one muffler?
TatII
05-16-2005, 02:32 PM
when i was n/a i had the apexi n1 duals. they are 2x 2.25 inch piping straight from teh cat all the way back to the twin mufflers. its not the cheap stuff you see on the ricers thats a twin muffler coming out of one exhuast pipe. this one actually has 2 pipes running down the car until it hits the cat. i traded the n1 duals with my friends GP sport 3 inch exhuast becuase i wanted more top end then tq.
