Hey guys, just thought you guys would like to know that I found a car that is made by chevy but not sold in the US. It's a car made for the Middle East. It's called a Lumina the SS version has the corvette engine in it a 5.7L V8 325hp. If you guys want any more info about this car w/ specs, or any comments just leave a reply or e-mail me.
I'm recieving this car over the summer.

and it's made in Austrailia. Look at the license plate. It's called the Monaro, and GM is thinking of bringing it to the US as the GTO. It's still slated to have the LS1 and be rearwheel drive. Go to http://www.holden.co.nz/ or http://www.hsv.com.au/ to see for yourself.

GM has also had thoughts of bringing the Holden Commodore over as well. It looks like a new El Camino, only it's bad ass too with an LS1 powerplant. It's under UTE at the HSV site above (second link).

i thought that even the coupe had 345 or something like that...not that it really matters

Yeah, the Z06 has 405, soon to be 425. When the C6 comes out in a few years, word says that it'll have around 450. The base model Corvettes, coupe or convertible, has 345. They wouldn't give it the same horsepower as a Z28, or base SS (though now from SLP, you can get 335 hp or 345 hp packages). My 01 came with the 335 hp package.

That picture is of the Holden Monaro.
It's powered by the same LS1 engine thats in the current F-Body and Corvette (not including the ZO6). It's sold in the Mid-East as the Impala SS and Caprice.
Bob Lutz plans to bring it to the US with slightly "tweaked" styling and rebadged as the Pontiac GTO. It will be offered in both a 4 speed automatic or a 6 speed manual.

Also, Bob Lutz wants to put the LS6 motor (ZO6 engine) which currently makes 405hp and drop it into the Cadillac CTS. The new "CTSi" will be available with a 6 speed manual transmission and is planned to rival the likes of the M5 as far as performance goes, but at a cheaper cost!

Sounds like Lutz is kickin' GM into shape! All I can say is "Its about TIME!"

Also, from the rumors I have heard, which are supposedly fairly accurate, the C6 coupe/vert will be equipped with an all new motor which will make around 450hp. There are also plans for a C6 ZO6 which will make somewhere around 500hp. GM's going Viper hunting! :)

The scarry thing about GM is that it always goes by RWHP and not engine HP. Look at fords they go by engine and they still don't ahve as much HP as the LS1 in a 98 F-body. If you look at a lot of the dyno sheets for the F-bodies with LS1's expecially the 01-02's they are almost identical to the Factory rating. I have personaly seen a 2001 WS6 dyno at 324 to the rear wheels Nothing done to it all stock. And I think they are rated at 335 from teh factory. The new Z06 dynos around 380-390 the the rear wheels. That is sick. If you just throw in a 15% drive train loss you are looking at about 450 engine HP on the Z06 and in the F-bodies youa re looking at around 370 HP to the engine. GM knows what the hell they are doing with these cars. And the Viper is listed byengine HP there is a guy who goes to the local car shows with a 98 GTS with stage 2 heads and cam, a 4" cat back, and intake and he dynoed the car at around 530 to the rear wheels. If i remember those years had 475 Hp rating. The stage 2 heads and cam are good for 50-70 hp on the vipers. GM will win the speed war for sure with the vette. As long as they keep cost around the same price they will have buyers.

true, the Middle Eastern Lumina is made in Australia, and yes, they are bringing the Monaro to the US as the GTO (completely different front though), however, the new Monaros (Holden also had a Monaro line here in the 60's and 70's), have a different grille on them, that's the grille on the VT/VX (1997-02) Commodores...

Apparently Holden are considering exporting the Commodores to the US for use as taxis and police cars if the Ford Crown Victoria changes to FWD (the Commodores are RWD, even though it is a ~$35000AU ($20000US) family sedan)

The Car in the picture is not a production model.

It was the Prototype for the new Holden Monaro- the Monaro has a one piece grille and shorter headlamps- the Monaro will come to the US as the Pontiac GTO at a rate of 25,000 a year. It is available with a Supercharged Buick V6 or LS1 Chevy V8. You can also get the HSV GTS Coupe- tuned by Callaway- very nice indeed- but with an awful bodykit

And the fact being that the GTO/Lumina concepts are taking the place of the Camaro at this point in time thanks to GM, it goes here nicely...:D

Every car manufacturer goes by flywheel HP. The LS1 in the F-bodys is very underrated. ;)

Yeah I doubt they go by rwhp because my S-10 would be a lot faster if that were the case, and it's definately around only 180 hp.

Hi guys...

Let's please note that GM rates its cars using BHP ( brake HorsePower )

and not the

horepower at the rear wheels, infact i don't know where that guy got

that idea from ?!?!?!

And by the way, as an owner of a brand new 2003 Monaro SS, i can say

that the car is not as fast as it seems...Yeah you can easily pass Fords,

but still you can't beat a Z-28...!!!..Well, you think i'm wrong ?! Tell me

what do you know about it ???

Hey man....you are going too far...with all the respect to the Camaro (it was the first car that I ever been to in my life as my dad had a Z28 back in the seventies) but a Z28 can never pass a Lumina SS, I'm driving my second lumina SS and both are Z28 beaters, and I mean it big time...I'm talking standard cars here....

Please dont take it as an insult but its a fact.......

Cio!
