I have a 1989 trans-am GTA, with a HEI ignition with an external coil. My problem is the magnetic pickup in the distributor keeps rusting on me. I heard of drilling a hole to rellieve moisture, is that true? And where do I drill the hole and hole size. Or is there another reason for the rusting??

never heard of that before. what do you mean by rust? a light film is normal as the pickup is not treated, just bare metal. so it is anormal thing, unless you are talking about that it is falling apart

You should be able to use some di-electric compound inside the distributor to prevent rust and carbon buildup. This stuff prevents some arcing. A very light coating on the contact areas inside the distributor may help you out. Stuff looks like vaseline.
