clutch squeaking...

I have a 94 mustang gt and the clutch when completely let out makes a chirping or squeaking sound much like a little bird or something. It did this before and after a new throughout bearing and pressure plates were installed. I was wondering if anyone could help me put an end to this annoying problem. The noise doesnt affect preformance but its annoying having to lightly touch the clutch pedal to get it to go away all the time. Any help is greatly appreciated....thanks

no freakin crap, i think im having the same problem on my 2000, does it do it real bad when you brake sometimes to? not every time though

Sounds like the throw out bearing. Did you just recently do a clutch swap, or adjust your cable? If there's too much preload on the TB, it will constantly be in motion, causing it to wear out quicker. From what I remember, there's only supposed to be 10 ft-lbs of preload on the cable/bearing.

thanks for the ideas, i need to check into that, how can i check the pre load on the clutch cable. The bearing only has about ten thousand miles on it, but i has done this with the old one too and ever since it hit about 55,000 miles...

Not sure if you fixed this yet, been a while since I've been around. 10 pounds is not much force, you basicly want to take the slack out of the cable and tighten just a bit more. The use of a firewall adjuster comes in handy here with fine tuning.

my clutch has over 70k on it now anyway, im just gonna replace mine, probably get a hi-performance one too. but im not sure which one to get right now.

I had that same problem and tried new throw out bearings etc. It came down to having to but a "steel" throwout bearing retainer. The factory one's are made of aluminum. Since doing this I have had no noises for the last 50,000 miles. Plus it shifts ( 5 spd) smoother also.

I just had a new clutch and throwout bearing put in last summer and the thing has been squeeking ever since. Apparently its normal and dosn't effect anything. I will agree wholeheartedly that its annoying. I would do the steel bearing thing but I dont think its worth it for me to pull the trans off just to get rid of harmless squeeking at this point.

What will eventually happen by not taking care of this?
The T.O. Bearing will wear down the retainer and possibly put grooves in it and cause "sticky" shifting. Why Ford made these outta Aluminum is stupid. The retainer costs around 50$ and is really quite easy to put on.

you should replace your clutch because when your throwout bearing goes out it starts chipping away at the gear in your clutch after a while
at that point or throw out bearing is going to continue to fail and squeak
