Advice and tips on equipment/mods...

Okay.....semi-newb to modelling, complete newb to car modelling here, with a few questions for the wizened souls of the board. Everthing from the simple to the insane....

1. I spent most of my early modelling working with a Badger 350 airbrush. Right before my hiatus (moves suck....they really do...took me a YEAR AND A HALF to find my equipment), I picked up an Aztek A470 kit (the nice wood box, four nozzles, adapters, whole deal). Now, I've never actually USED the thing before...but while I can get that down, I'm just wondering from anyone who has it, what's the best methods to clean it? I know they make a 'cleaning station' for it...necessary, or waste of cash?

2. Before cracking open my GTR kit, I never knew that the windows were all molded as one piece.....has anyone tried to cut these pieces before? I was interested in doing an R32 with the windows half down, but that now seems to be a rather complex proposition. Possible, or just more evidence of my growing senility?

3. With regards to the R34....anyone know maybe where I could get some kind of wire mesh to replace the cloth/fabric one included for the front grille? Tried hunting around a few hardware stores, but nothing came close....

Well, big thanks to all, and even bigger thanks for all the contributions in the tacked threads...got a LOT of useful tips on there.

Oh, and since I can't finish without a complete shot in the dark....anyone know where I can maybe score a scan or copy of a Bandai Master Grade 1/100th Gundam GP01 kit?

Did I mention I HATE moving?

1. i take it yours didnt come with the instruction video???... i have the A470 and to clean i just spray through some thinner until all trace of paint has gone then i like to leave the nozzle to soak in some more thinner just to make sure any build up of paint is removed. As for the handle, the small red plastic nozzle wrench fits all the holes to scrape away any build-up.

2. Its possible to cut the windows but your gonna need to be extra careful doing it. Might be best to use a fine razor saw to cut through it. If your going to have half open windows try using acetate or clear plastic sheet used by rail modelers, its a bit thicker than acetate and is about the correct scale thickness.

3. there are some aftermarket mesh's available but i cant remember who from?? Hopefully someone will tell u, i would like some myself

Tried hunting around a few hardware stores, but nothing came close....I found some pretty cool diamond-shaped mesh at the craft store. It's intended to be used as the "skeleton" for clay sculptures and stuff. It's pretty thick, though, but it'd be good enough if you could only see one side, like on a curbside kit.

You can also look for finer, photo-etch sheets like these:

(Wong sells those, BTW... ;))
