Cold Air Intake

Ok guys, the rookie has another question...

Why is a cold air intake better than the stock air filter? Just because it takes air from outside of the engine compartment? (Researching my first ever upgrade)

Well, in our cars it mainly has to do with the flow rate. Look at the stock air box and think of the air going through there and how restrictive that thing is. A cone filter setup will increase the amount of air the engine can get and how hard it has to work to get it. Plus those rechargable filters will save you money in the end and the have higher flow rates and clean the air better than those paper filters.

...and depending on where the cai goes it might be pulling in colder air which means denser air which means more power

Thanks again guys.

Think I'll be going with the K&N. Read through the installation instructions on their website and looks like I can handle that. Any constructive criticism before I make the purchase? Do's and Don'ts?

Hey guys,
I was tinkering with my car and pulled out the air filter and intake ducts... well, I removed the part that the air filter housing mounts to, because it just seemed like that "box" was restricting airflow, but there's a part that attached to it like a feed-through from the engine compartment to the outside just behind the headlights. I want to pull it out, but can't get behind the headlights, and of course, it slides out the front! Question being, how the hell do I get this piece out of there? (hoping you guys know what I'm talking about!)

Thanks
