radio trouble!

I have a 2001 cherokee. The other morning I started my car and the radio didn't work. Nothing. The radio seems as if it is simply disconnected. Nothing works on it. However, every thing else in the vehicle works correctly. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

No lights...no clock...nothing? I assume you checked the fuse. Next step would be to pull the head unit and check for power and ground. Pretty easy to do.

ok sounds good. Is there anyway to take the dash off surrounding the stereo without removing the entire paneling??

its only a couple of screws and it pops right out

Is there a somewhat straight forward way to determine this? A color scheme or something? I have absolutely no idea what is going on, but i can follow directions and I have succesfully installed a radio back in my hay day.

look in the chiltons manuel it gives you the wire codes

Check for blown fuse. Check *all* the fuses (not just the one labelled for the radio) because these radios are powered even when they are "off"; there is control power for the memory (station presets) and the clock. This power is typically "hotwired" through a fuse to the battery, bypassing the ignition switch. If the memory/control power is lost, then the radio may not turn on.

The radio is very easy to remove: the dash surround in the center pod simply pops off (there are spring loaded retainers to hold it in place). Use a putty knife.... put some duct tape on the end so you don't scratch the dash. Carefullly slip the knife between the main dash and the center pod trim piece... a gently pry and the trim will pop off. The radio is held in place with a couple of 10mm screws. On the back will be two plugs for power and speaker routing.

Ah yes radio trouble...get an aftermarket one. I had the one in my 97 Sport repaired several times under extended warranty until I gave up.

Go to a good sound shop or electronics store....they got cheap ones and expensive one that are all better than the Chrysler one. If you research this forum, you will see other electrical "issues" related to the this Chrysler system.

They have an adapter harness with the right colors for attaching the factory harness to aftermarket units. This is also the simplest way, since it comes with wiring diagrams and all. My installation worked like a charm. I just got a $130 Sony with one CD and stuck it in and it all works. There might be a bracket you need to get also, just ask the people there.
