Low Coolant Light-1996

I have a 1996 Grand Am Gt 4 Cylinder and the low coolant light is on but the coolant isnt low. It first came on when I had the key turned backwards just listening to the radio for a little bit one day then went off. Then about a week later I ran it hard and it came back on and stayed on for like 2 weeks, until the other night I ran it hard again and when i went to pull in my driveway I realized the light was off does anyone have any idea why?

If its not low it may be a bad sending unit or just a loose wire/bad ground. May wanna check there.

Where would I look to check that out? I dont know much about cars.
