jerking after every shift

I just bought a 2002 eclipse gt 5 speed. What I noticed is that after every shift there is a single jerk, if the rpm's are not at the proper speed when letting the clutch out, the car jerks forward alot. Last night I shifted from 1st to 2nd and there was a loud knock. I am guessing it is the motor mount. If this was the case what mount would it be?

Any other suggestions??

is this your first manual transmission?

if you are running 5000rpms in second gear, shift to third, and then drop the clutch without hitting getting on the gas, then it will jerk. thats normal with any manual transmission. i cant really tell by your description if thats what you were doing.

as for the loud knock....welcome to the club. you have just bought one of the worst transmission. in most of the v6 trannys, the 2nd gear synchro goes bad very quickly. switching your gear oil to BG Synchroshift or Redline will probably help you shift a little easier

No, I have been driving stick for years now, and I know the dynamics of how it all works. But it seems to have exsessive play in the front end.....almost to say the cv shafts were worn out (there not) and if i pull off the gas in second gear there is play between the.............ah too tough to explain.

New question.....how would i know if my motor mounts are bad?

You'd have to take a look at them to see if they're bad. The rubber part is only connected to the metal core in two spots on the front and rear mounts so check and see if they're cracked or whatever. If they are bad I'd recommend replacing them with solid polyurethane mounts from deyeme racing. After I installed them shifting became noticeably smoother and they're supposed to reduce a lot of wheel hop that comes with launching a FWD car.

i would suggest replacing them even if the stock ones are not bad.

update

I had a look at the mounts, and guess what, the front motor mount was missing the main bolt. It was bolted to the engine and the other piece was bolted the the frame, the there was no bolt holding thme together.
