battery goes dead

I have a 1994 Jetta GL and after about 3 days the battery will be drained...the car isn't on the road yet so it just sits in the driveway. What could be draining the battery? we've tryed unplugging the alarm system, put a new battery in it, and it still goes dead. Could it be the alternator maybe?

Disconnect the positive battery cable & connect an Ammeter between the battery & cable. Anything over 250 miliamps can draw down the battery over a couple of days. Start pulling fuses until you find the one that is causing the draw.

We checked all the fuses and none of them are causing draws....thank you for all your input! Is there anything else that you can think of that it might be?

I had a similar prob. It ended up being the ignition switch. Even though the car was off, something was still triggered. You can do a alternator test at autozone, too. But it sounds like the ignition switch. About $260 including the install.

If there is no (less than about 250mA) draw between the battery post & cable when disconnected then the problem lies within the battery.
