its the vehicle speed sensor.
It can be found on the ecm as wire 3 of the "black" connector. All you have to do is use a quick splice or solder a wire on there to get it.
Are you installing an overhead console?

yes , i'm trying to install a overhead console out of a 97 and putting it into a 1994. i would like to get the temp and compass to work and the reading lights. any help would be appreciated. i've read some of the other post on the install, still haven't got the wires figured out completely. haven't got the reading lights to all work.i get OC on the readout along with a compass direction that's not correct.

OC means open circuit. The temp sensor needs to be properly grounded for it to function correctly. To test if the ground is good simply take out the sensor and short the two connections with a wire or a paperclip. The console should say "SC". If it does, you know the connections and ground are good and, and the sensor may be bad. If it still says "OC" when shorted, your ground or your wiring may be bad.
The compass can be recalibrated by holding both buttons down for a few seconds.
let us know if you get it to work!

thanks, i have to order the temp sensor, or get it from the dealer.
i got the wiring harness down to the 8 or 9 pin connector and was playing with it to see what color connected to where with the info from the archive pages to a battery i have in the garage. thanks again.

Just thought I'd let you know that the compass wont function correctly unless vss is connected. It is set so that if vss=0 (you're not moving) the compass will not change.
This may help:

On your 94 the VSS wire is tapped at location A10 on the 24 pin connector on the ecm under the glove box, that needs to be hooked up for everything to function correctly as the vss pulses the display to tell it when to take a new reading.

thanks, i couldn't find that in my repair manual.it's a generic that covers 94-- and the 94 wiring wasn't listed.

If you want to see what the OHC from a 99 looks like in a 1st gen, look at my old site at www.pghconsulting.net/blazer

rlith, hope i can get my over head to work , it looks great. also like the idea of painting the intake. they look really dirty stock.
chcknugget, thanks too!! for the info. i hope i can get it working. first i have to go get a temp sensor, i guess that you can't get them at a autozone or advance auto.

If I'm not mistaken you can find the vss sensor off your cruise control module. I'm not that familiar with pre 96 vehicles, but I heard that this wire is accessible under the dash. I don't know if this is the wire rlith already mentioned, but it may be easier to get if it's not.

i haven't looked for the wire yet, kind of waiting on the temp sensor ,was just getting the console to fit good. i have to make a couple of brackets to hold the front up tight to the headliner. lookin at using blocks of wood.i was doing it alone and needed another hand to finish up.

easier to do it from the ecm on the 1st gens because no wiring needs to be run through the firewall for the vss.. (less hassle) as I said, it's location a10 off the 24 pin connector or the ecm

OK , i have , yellow to power
lt grn/blk to temp sensor (i am getting a reading)
blk/wht to ground
i still have dark green, gray and brown.
does anyone have an idea which goes to the vss wire on the ecm ?
looking at the plug with the leads facing you from left to right i have yellow,blk/wht,drk grn,lt grn/blk,gray,brown.
i'm guessing that the dark green from the compass itself is to be hooked to the a10 terminal.
thanks to all . i'll finish install friday and post my results

Look at my previous posts in this thread. It's A10 on the 24 pin connector at the ecm :screwy:
