For a month now it's been lightly "flickering", it did it all the time. Then up to a week and a half ago, that flickering would toggle the brightness on, and off, all the time. My screen would go dark, then bright, and vice versa, all the fricken time
Last week, roughly thursday, it decided "ha, fuck you n00b i'm going old school style now, bitch" and refuses to show colour. It's perfect now, but here's where it gets weird.
Every time the computer turns on, or comes back from a screen saver, it's dark, black, white/gray, for a good 10 minutes. I can still read, infact, I was on AF reading some posts. Then the colour comes back, but it's all blurry, so I hit the side of the monitor and it goes back to normal wtf?
I'm looking at a new monitor. Although this one is about 18 months old, flat screen, it's 17", I'm hoping to get 19" for my next one.

19 inch? Pfft, you need to get those huuuuuuge ass monitors that cost a crapload of money and about the size of your TV screen, THEN you wont have to squint your eyes if you need glasses, lol.

Often times with the symptoms you're describing you need to clean the pins for the signal cable, wiggle/tighten it and see if that helps, you can use some fine grain sand paper to clean the pins, but clean the debris off before you plug it back in (compressed air works well), and make sure all the pins are straight, I've had to do this procedure before when I worked at a CCTV Repair shop, and it wasn't equipment sent in for repair, it was my desktop,
Or get a graphics/video card that allows you to place your picture on your existing TV (just has like a cable connection on the back of it), I had one of those 3 computers ago, now my brother has lost that computer(MFer), If I had money I'd get a new one, only cost about $100, with a wireless keyboard and mouse, its the shit!

S video is cool for putting everything on the tv. Works well when watching movies on the TV through the laptop. Gotta have it hooked up to the surround sound too.

You can still upgrade to that 27" (or whatever your TV is) with that graphics card,
What about your old monitor? Did you try my quick fix?

One of my 5 monitors is a Panasonic Panasync E50 and it constantly goes from very vertical; to very horizontal, etc.... Very annoying. Luckily it's just used for my network server so most of the time the monitor is off. Hitting it makes it worse. It's a vertical/horizontal hold problem. I also happen to have a older 13in. that will not turn on (it turns on but the light stays orange; signalling standby. Turns out that the pin that tells it to 'wake up' is compleatly bent over... sucks too; it was a good monitor until I tripped on the cord one day. (Network server sits in a corner of my room on the floor.)
Just BTW the network server is a:
Unknown Brand/Model
Pentium 133Mhz
16MB RAM
Windows 95 "Internet Explorer Edition"
1GB HD
Actually works quite well.
