Another problem again

Hey guys, so i took the car to my mechanic and found out the sound that was coming from my wheel wells was not after all the ball joints. It had something else to do with the suspension, and if anyone cares to ask i can go into more detail.

THE PROBLEM:
ANyway, so the car is running fine now, except another problem that grew during while previous problem was going on. So after riding around it a day after i notive that the car makes this weird bumping and (i wanna say squeeling sound, but its kind of hard to describe). I guess i never heard the sound since the noise coming from my wheel wells. It usually happens when i turn and accelerate at the same time OR when i just excelerate pretty hard. I also noticed it happens on bumpy roads as well, if that helps any. So i was thinking, could it be that i need new motor mounts? Thats the only thing i can think of, but please help with any others guys. Thanks!

If it's motor mounts, there will be a knocking any time you accerlate, brake, and sometimes turning. Open the hood and have someone watch the engine move as you slowly accerlate to see if it moves at all.

I personally still have a knock coming from the front, even after getting the engine mounts done and ball joints and control arms. I think it's the CV joints, which Im replacing next month. Could be that.

Cool i was thinking about these man....for the mounts....what do you guys think? http://turboimport.com/catalog/eclipse.htm

Also what is the difference between motor mounts and motor inserts?

Inserts are just the rubber/plastic things inside. Ive got the plastic ones. Makes the engine stick in the car... No play at all. More vibrations tho.

The mounts are the full metal mounts and inserts. You should just need the inserts.

Could i get the motor mounts and inserts, or will that deal i linked be a bad investment? I think i seen just the inserts on ebay for like under $25 or some shit.

I'm kinda curious, can I ask?

It sounds to me like the wheel bearings. If you can, jack up a corner of the car and see if you can wiggle the wheel in any direction.

Motor mounts are a good investment, even if they aren't bad now. Prothane and Energy Suspension make them. On 2g's the front and rear mounts are called tranny mounts and need inserts that slip inside. The left and right mounts are called motor mounts and require a vice to remove and replace the center section. Do the front and rear mounts first, they're cheap and easy, and solve 80% of your wheel hop problems. Installation of the front mount isn't difficult, the rear mount is frustrating. Both 97gstspyder and I have posted install writeups. His is more complete than mine... mine is more comedy. If you decide later that you don't mind a jittery ride, you can then do the left and right mounts. Installation there is a little more complicated.

Inserts should run about 25ish, as you said. The Prothane system on the website you listed was 95 for both inserts and the two center sections. At this point, I don't know that it's worth the money for the center sections. So long as you can buy those separately, later, you may get away with a pretty cheap fix at 25 for the inserts.

An even cheaper option is to use liquid window weld on your mount. Works as well, I'd argue better. Cheap, too. Anyway, getting off topic. Try the quick and dirty test of your wheel bearings.

Sweet guys thanks a lot! I will definately keep you updated on how it goes and exactly what was wrong....I think im actually gonna go for that one deal at turboimport.com, but first i will try to see if it is the wheel bearings. But if i may, can i ask you how you wiggle the wheel? Like in what direction? Also, the inserts that are for $25, what will eleminate the rest of the %20 of wheel hop?

If i do get the inserts and/or mounts, what material should i use? Polyeurethane (spell check) or prothane.....

It's like the Hokey Pokey. Do it all around, lol.

Make sure your tires have tread. You'll be pretty well off. If you have problems after this, I'd be surprised. I did a quick search, didn't see anything great. My personal suggestion would be to put Prothane inserts on your control arms. Well, so long as your upper mounts are stockish.

Energy Suspension is less stiff than Prothane. I don't think either is made of straight polyurethane, I may be wrong. I'd rather have the stiffer Prothane, your call.
