New Project (pics!!!)

Well, as some of you might already know, i get tons of these various IHI turbos and such for free, sometimes they dont have problems, sometimes they need repairs. Here is my latest batch i picked up and am going to rebuild...

Here is all the turbos (except for 2 more that i still havent brought inside from the car yet)

Here are 2 TO4's, the one on the left has a fuc*ed up compressor housing, and the one on the right has a cracked turbine housing. Im gonna trade the good/bad so i have good/good and then rebuild the bearing housing.

Here is the inside of the one with the messed up compressor housing, can you see the teeth on the compressor blades? because there are none lol

Here is my IHI RHB7 turbo that has a chunk of downpipe stuck where it screws into the turbine housing (sounds wierd but most of the turbos i get arent bolt type housings, they mostly are the ring screw in ones)

Here is my other IHI RHB7 turbo that has a cracked downpipe ( in the big pic you can see the new one i have sitting next to it)

And last but not least, here is my mini turbo that looks like it would go to a nice go cart project lol :sunglasse It would be awesome, but i dont know how long my cart would last. Pictures dont do justice how small this thing really is, my hand in a fist is bigger than it....

Of course all the bearing housings will be taken apart and rebuilt, these should be looking brand new in a few weeks, you wont be able to tell from these pics then. Ill post pics as im going along...

it seems you have enough turbos that you could give each of the regulars a turboand still have a feew for yourself. So what do u do w/ these turbos once you fix them?

damn those are some messed up looking turbos. the t04 on the left looks liek what happend to mine when pieces of welds on my intake pipe broke and hit the blades, not a pretty sight, i would not even make 9 psi with the wastegate signal blocked. however with that i still manage to make 214whp on 6 psi. heh but that was still a disapointingly low number for me.

Think about if they were all huge turbos trying to push 28-30 PSI and the block and manifold could TAKE IT! Talk about lag but then once it got going talk about "Seat of the Pants"

I get the turbos from work after they arent gonna use them, or are reinventorying everything and put the ones they arent going to use off to the side and then i get them. They should all look new once im done...and the 8 turbo chevy is kinda stupid, but creative....

i didnt have much time today but spent about an hour taking off the compressor housing, front bearing section with compressor wheel, and all of the exhaust housing bolts except for one that im going to have to heat tomorrow with a torch.

Turbocharge my friends lawnmower. Just basically fuck around with.lol

I was thinking if i could start rebuilding and selling 1 or 2 every couple weeks i could make shitloads....but i need to get a torch at my moms house where im living, my tools are kinda limited over here because im normally at my dads house...My dad did just by me a new snap-on top box though, got a great deal on it from our local dealer.

the only problem is getting them all back to my house. It sounds easy, but i first filled the box up with all 7 of them, not thinking about the weight. I couldnt pick them up so i went and got a hand truck...that didnt work, all my weight wouldnt lift the box. So i went and got a forklift cuz my lazy ass isnt going to carry them all of the way across the warehouse 1 by 1. Plus driving forklifts is just plan fun...

damn dude i hope you know what your doing rebuilding turbos. I mean are all the compressor and turbine housings the same size?? Or are you going to mix and match the shit. You may create one useless turbo. To big of a turbine with to little of a compressor. Or vice versa. judging from the pics. Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me. The first three look as if they all have a different size turbine and compressor.

And no, in not going to randomly interchange parts to make something useless. ive been doing this for a while now, one turbo at a time though and have spent the money and also saved it. This isnt a first timer. The two TO4B's are identical, except one has a bad compresser housing, and the other has a good compressor housing. Ill just rebuild the bearing housing, put the good compressor housing on, and put everything back togethor to have a good turbo. I wouldnt swap something if it didnt come off, or be the exact same as the part i was switching.


If anyone knows anything about garretts turbo's let me know, because there is some wierd part number on the to4 and i was wondering if you could explain these numbers. It says KB-TO4B83...

you may want to clean them with a carbon disolving agent. i dont know man, that one still looks like bad impeller blades. Like some backfireage happend to it. Unless its just an optical illusion from the angle of the pic.

i wonder wth flew through the turbo to shave the blades completely down. Thats crazy. That shaft is all discolored lol. Not enough oil i guess?

well that To4B that had the messed up impeller is junk. once i pulled everything out and checked the bearings i noticed they were completely shot, and there were also tons of metal shaving inside the bearing housing= not even worth it. I gave the compressor housing to some kid at school when i was in my engine class and just tossed everything else in the garbage...

yea, i can imagine. There was virtually no blades at all left on that bitch. THe housing was probably wasted. I dont see what the kid is going to use it for. One little scracth can mess the flow.
