is this a good platform

let me start off buy saying im 20 years old. and will be out of school in 1 year. i have about 5-7grand to spend on a car now seeing as im selling my car now and a few other ways to make bread. anyways . my frist car was a 87' buick lesabre im not going to lie i dont miss it that much since then. i have owned Camaro,conquest,geo storm , crx,isuzu Rodeo and now a prelude. so now to the point of all this crap when i get out of school i will be making more money then i have ever seen and would like to have a project to put some of my money in to. i cant get a gtp right now but i see gt's going cheap is this a good platform . this may sound dumb but cant i just spend a few grand and get the gtp 3.8s/c thrown in there when i get out. i dont know should i do .just get out of school and then buy the gtp. what do you guys think i know this is long and dumb and im sorry and anything would help thanks..

Yeah, you can spend a few grand and get the supercharged 3.8...and a few more for the 4T65E-HD tranny to push it. My advice is get a GTP to start with...though the GT's can be given a pretty good boost in horsepower with modding. Check somewhere like autotrader.com for GTP's...that's where I found my '97 GTP that had every avaliable factory option for $6800 and the '99 GTP I'm currently driving that has everything except the 12-disc cd changer for $8600

My advise is not to waste your time on GP's. Get something the is atleast RWD for a project. You'll go through more trannies then you can shake your hand at. That and once you get to mid to low 13's it starts getting more expensive to go faster, and thats not counting the trannies that you'll go through.

Follow your heart. Why don't you get an old 1974-1976 Pontiac LeMans and soup it up (if you can find one)? Now that would be a project! You could put it in shows and stuff. I love those old cars!

That's a good point. It sort of depends on what kind of "project" you're wanting...if you're wanting something you can make look good, with a few performance mods, then the GP's are fine. If you're wanting more of something you can soup up and get insane amounts of horsepower, definitely find something rear-wheel drive. If you really want a Pontiac, try to find a Firebird or Trans Am. They double as collector's items since they don't make them anymore.
