rpm gauge fluctuates but no change in motor also when driving the car it has a miss or hesitation most of the time when the car is warm want's to die sometimes

when you start the car the rpm gauge fluctuates and continues to fluctuate the whole time the car is running. when the car warms up and you are driving it down the road it cuts in and out and the motor starts shaking really bad. the more you give it gas the harder it shakes. it has died on me while driving it down the road. we have replaced the mass air flow sensor. it has new spark plugs and wires and a new coil pack. it has a new battery as well. the service engine light does not come on. this problem did not occur until my husband put a new water pump in it. he had trouble getting the old one out and had to take the motor mount off. he was prying on everything with a screwdriver, i was wondering if maybe his carelessness is part to blame for this. i dont understand why the service engine light isnt coming on. we put a bad mass air flow sensor on it that my mom had for the car when it belonged to her and the srevice engine light came on. so it seems like if it was a sensor the light would come on.

Sounds like a bad cam or crank sensor don't have any idea why the engine isn't storing a code.
