Hey guys i was told by a friend that a good way to start off with engine performance is to bore it out, like 40 over, he says that its low enough to still maintain reliability , i was just curious how much the costs and horse power gains on that would be. Any replies are greatly apreciated.
thanx alot

You should only bore the motor if you are doing a rebuild. A good way to start off is basic mods. The best way for quite a bit more power is starting to look into that turbo kit.

is that mainly because you have to send it into a machine shop and its a real inconvenience to take out/put back in because my friend has an engine hoist and we were looking into doing that if needed, or is it a bad idea for other reasons, i wasn't so much looking for the best way to start out, its just, seems like if i want to throw a CAI/H/E on it afterwards "most" future mods i wouldn't have to totally tear apart the car to modify, sorry if this comes off as confusing and thanx for replying

sorry man i didn't realize it actually worked the first time and had the window open for over the time constraint and tried it again. I'm terribly sorry for that, believe me it won't happen again

you don't need to bore out you engine for a intake and exhaust upgrades. boring is mainly used to repair damaged cylinder walls due to internal damage or ring wear on the cylinder walls. it would be way more of a hassle to pull the motor and completely disassemble it if all you want is a little more power. waste of time IMO.
now if you're looking at a turbo in the future (guessing you're a nt) and you really want to tear the motor down, then you might look at doing some internal upgrades too. pistons/rods/maybe a new crank. just my $.02.

boring out an engine has more effect for the v8 guys then us. we have 4 small cylinders so when we bore them 40 thousandths over it doesnt add much volume. when a v8 with 8 cylinders much bigger bores it out 40 over they get much more of a difference sine they are increasing the size of the cylinder quite a bit.
