tell you an easier way, well i think it is, if the key wont turn, then you gonna have to use a drill. i have a 00 cavy and the lock cylinder went out, the tumblers, and i had to use a drill to get it out instead of taking the column apart. just get some good bits and it takes about an hour, but once you get the tumblers drilled out the lock cylinder will turn. then put it in the on position and there is a little pin you have to push it in and then the lock cylinder will come out. when replacing with the new one just do the same thing. put the lock cylinder in the on position and slid it in. you will have to push the pin in. hope this helps. if you have to get a new lock cylinder you are better off going to the junkyard.

oh yeah and if you go to the junkyard and you cant find one with a key just get the vin and take it to a dealer and they will cut you a new key for about $8.

evan has great thought regarding boneyard replace.
If ya follow the link's directions I gave ya, and disconnect the SIR, the bag can't blow.

oh yeah if it comes to you having to drill it out, the black plastic cover on the lock cylinder go ahead and break it off then there should be a shiny piece of steel behind it. you wont be able to drill through this. you gonna have to get a flat head/straight screwdriver and place it in the slot in the middle and break it out. i have found the bigger the screwdriver the better and if you can use a craftsman in case the screwdriver breaks you can get a free replacement on it.

evansdad i drilled it out today and i was able to start the car but keeps shuting off will stay on for like maybe 30 seconds and if i try to step on the gas it shuts down too. could it be the theft deterent is there a way to disable it. took maybe 5 minuts to drill it out i disconnected the battery and had no problems except know wont stay on. does your car have the passlock or some sort of theft system. if so that is what it is. the dealer says to turn the key in the on position for 30 mins then turn the ignition off then start the car. it should be fine according to them, but it never worked on my 00 cavy, well the car still started and was driveable, but the theft system light was on. i just took it to the dealer and had them reset it. you can try this after you replace the lock cylinder. good luck let me know how it goes.
