1. Remove key from ignition
2. Locate bulb failure warning module in trunk near left hinge and disconnect electrical connector.
3. Jump pins 11 & 12of connector with short wire or paper clip
4. Door locks will cycle
5. Press any button on remote keyless entry transmitter
6. Door locks will cycle again
7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 for another transmitter
8. Remove jumper from connector and reconnect to module

NOTE: A max of 2 transmitters can be programmed to a car

These instructions work. I just finished adding two remotes to my car.
Hope this helps all who wish to add remotes

A quick addition to the proceedure. There are two boxes by the left hinge. One black, that says remote keyless entry on it, and the other, grey, which is the lamp monitor. The latter one is the box you need. If you look inside the wireing connection, you will see each terminal numbered. 11 and 12 are next to each other on the top left side as I recall. These are the terminals you need to ground together. Works great when you do the right terminals. Another thing I discovered, is that there were two types of systems available for the avalons. One which is what this describes for a factory installed keyless entry and another for the dealer installed system. The FCC codes have to match.

i have tried the following procedure on my 95 with no luck. The gray box I have actually says receiver door control and does not mention anything about lamps. Am i using the correct box?

I received the same instruction and key from ebay for my 95 Avalon (FCC ID: GQ43VT7T ISC: 1470 K1361).
But I haven't been able to find the bulb failure warning module in trunk. Is it hidden behind fabric cover? How small is the box? Please help.

There are 2 types of remotes for the 95-97 Avalon!

The GQ43VT7T unit is for the FACTORY system.

The BAB237131-022 unit is for the DEALER/PORT system.

If you don't know which remote you need check with your local Toyota dealership's parts department before ordering so you know which system you have to order remotes for.

The instructions and remotes are completely different and are NOT interchangeable.

"The GQ43VT7T unit is for the FACTORY system."

My remote must be the factory system. Old remote works fine and it is identical to the one I bought from ebay. Could someone verify that the instruction posted by DArealPERCH applies to the factory system? I sill can not find bulb failure warning module. Darn it.

Hi Jim612, I have the exact system as you, same remote with the same FCC ID and ISC. But my car is a 96 Avalon xls. Just like you, I can't find the 2 connectors that DArealPERCH is talking about. Did you get any more information from anyone on it since your last posted? Please let me know. Thanks.
