tranny?

alright.. after two phone calls the mechanic told me the shop can't fix my head.. so i had to find a low millage 7mgTe. found and purchased and its going in this week (hopefully). if i get the car back and it actually drive and runs well then i suppose i will keep it. with that in mind another thing i wasn't too fond of was the fact that it is automatic. would i be able to change it over to a five speed. could i just find a tranny from a old supra in a junk yard and grab it along with the clutch flywheel, pedle set, slave cyl, etc.. or would i need to do heavy modifications and get new parts. also would the rear work or would i need a new one? and of course about how much would it cost if it were possible. just questions. one more question for you guys, what is better in terms of performance an automatic or manuel 86-92 supra turbo?

It's all bolt on but you will have to do a bit of wiring for the neutral start switch and backup lights. You can either use a W58 from an N/A or use the R154 turbo transmission depending on your power goals. The W58 will be good for 350HP or so any more daily and you will probably want the R154. Whichever you choose you have to use the drive shaft from it because the turbo and N/A DS are different, it would actually be easiest to just get everything from the same car. Your rear end will be fine, there is no difference between the automatic and manual differentials. Do you need a list of auto/manual swap parts or do you already have a good idea of the parts you'll need? I know there are a few good write-ups floating around somewhere.

thank you so much man. now that i know all of this i will be able to decide what to do.. chances are if the car runs well i will indeed to the auto/ manuel swap. and one more thing (i appologize for asking so much), should i use the clutch out of the car i pull the tranny from or should i ordermyself a brand new one. if i should get a new one is the stock clutch recomended or a pucked clutch?

No need to apologize at all, the best way to learn is to ask. :smile: That is really up to you, but if I was going through all the trouble of doing a manual swap I would not reinstall an old clutch. I can't help much on the clutch questions because I haven't gotten to experiment with many different clutches yet, but what type of clutch you choose will ultimately depend on your power goals. There are TONS of options out there for clutchs, everything from stock, twin and triple plates, unsprung, ect.
