hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is exactly the correct place to post this but I was pretty much wondering if someone could give me a quick overview of what DSM, Ek, EG, etc. etc. meant? I know that they are cars, I just dont know what model and year. If there are any other acronyms for cars or car parts in general please let me know. I'm trying to get into the racing scene. But its getting real confusing when everyone is always saying DSM, CAI, FMI etc etc. Thanks.

CAI: cold air intake.
FMI: front mount intercooler
DSM: diamond star motors (ex:1st gen/2nd gen eclipse)
EK: 96-01 civics I believe?
EG: 92-95 civics?

DSM - Diamond Star Motors (89-94 Mitsu Eclipse, 89-94 Eagle Talon, 89-94 Plymouth Laser, 95-99 Mitsu Eclipse, 95-98 Eagle Talon)

CAI - Cold Air Intake

FMI (usually FMIC) - Front-mount intercooler

Honduh - Honda

I/H/E - Intake/Header(s)/Exhaust

EG - 92-95 Civic (I think)

EK - 96-00 Civic (I think)

EF - 88-91 Civic (I think)

Hmm what else:

WOT: wide open throttle (flooring it)
BOV: blow off valve...a release valve for excess boost pressure caused by turbos

Then there are the billion and a half engine and tranny names...it may simply be easier to ask specifics when you run across them...but don't worry, we were all there once and had to learn for ourselves.

Welcome to AF.

Its hot how all posters left the Starion and Conquest out of the definition of DSMs.

FI - usually Forced induction (turbos. superchargers. nitrous) can be Fuel Injection.
s/c - supercharger

s13 - 89-94 nissan 240sx
s14 - 95-98 nissan 240sx
z32 - 90-96 nissan 300zx
fd3s - 93-95 rx-7
fc3s - 86-91 rx7
z06 - highest performing model of corvette (well maybe except for the zr1)

sr20det - 2.0l turbo nissan engine, really popular swap into 240sx's (also has fwd versions)
4g63 - 2.0l turbo mitsubishi engine, the heart of the 90's dsm.

i would add the popular domestic engines but i dont want to say something wrong

race types -
from a dig: stopped, like an official 1/4 mile race
from a roll: cars are at speed and take off from that speed.
we generally express the distance of win/loss by carlengths, and if the race is close we will be "at his bumper" or "at his door"

350 = usually equals 350 cubic inch engines or 5.7 liters

F-bodies = firebird and camaro chassis

J- bodies = cavlier and sunbird chassis

fox bodies = the older 80-94 stangs i believe

SVT= special vechiles team ( in house tuning arms of ford )

so a dsm is defined by where its built, not by how it was developed?

JDM- Japanies DOmestic Market...JDM=pwnge just because it was in japan at one point.

oh ya

pwn- own

joo- you

V-TEC - Hondas Form of Variable Valve Timing. It really stands for Variable valve Timing by Electronic Control. well it is really some long drawn out thing, but you get the idea.

there is also iV-TECH which is the new smart vtec and pretty much every company now has its own variable valve timing system such as GM's echotech or some BS... my mind=blank

LOL I think I lost some of the english too. And I only speak english :p

I think it says:

It looks like you were able to obtain some nice power at a price that you could afford. My congratulations to you. If I had the money, I would like to place a 350 cubic inch engine in one of my cars. I would do this, but I love the sound of the turbo, and also the way it handles with a light weight engine. Overall, I would love to see your car. Once again, you recieved an outstanding price and my many congratulations to you. :lol2:
