something different..................

Im using a AMT Dodge ram D50 as a base for my rock crawler. I am only using the cab and Im cutting the doors off and back wall out. All hand made aluminum frame and cage. Will have moving suspension and I will most likely have to make my own springs seeing that theres not much out there in the way of a low compression spring suitable for models. Looks like Im going to have to order some super swampers from RPPHOBBY and possibly scratchbuild the bead locks. Might go ahead a make the whole rim from scratch out of PE materials. This is going to be more of a flashy rock crawler if that makes sence. Meaning, shiny paint job, maybe grafix. Possible cowl hood, and tons of PE parts.

some pics...............

Looks awesome, I can't wait to see this one move forward and maybe... finish? I have some springs out of some pens that might work well, they are very long and are pretty weak, so they might be just what you need.

Rollcage looks killer man! Suggestion for the springs....try a pen? Take apart a pen that has a spring in it. I've used them before for shocks. Dont know if the scale will be right for what you want but cant hurt to take a look. Keep up the good work cant wait to see more.

Thanks for the kinds words. I assemble the fram with super glue. Same as CA, or Zap. As for the suspension, will be moveable with coilovers. Recieved the superswampers today from www.rpphobby.com. Awesome wheels and tires! Perfect for this build! I cant believe how much they will bring to this build!

Thanks guys, for all the kind comments! Last nite i disassembled the suspension and started on the steering. Most of the steering components are scratchbuilt. I did however use 2 sets of steering knuckles from 2 super bee kits. The shocks are mostly built minus the lower mounts. Having trouble figuring those out. Not going with the coilovers, but more along the lines of oil shocks with nitrogen damening............... maore to come later!

Very impressive. :grinyes:

Gotta love when someone can replicate the function as well as the form! Nice.

Yet, more updates!

here, you can see the drivers side shocks installed. These are just mock ups to see how it will all go together.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/customminatures/rock%20crawler/P5310111.jpg
and the begining of the 4 wheel steer. I used the steering knuckles from 2 super bee kits plus a little scratchbuilding to make them work.......

thanks for looking once again!

OHHHH 4 wheel steering!! It looks posable; even better.

I think the oil shocks with nitrogen damening will look awsome. I saw a few on 1:1 rigs and couldn't figure out why there was no coil :screwy:

request filled!

I have to tweak the suspension a little. The shocks dont line up correctly, and a few of the links are sticky, but this is just mock up. I have to make everything pretty and working perfectly before I paint it! I was thinking Testors black and blue pearl for the body and other pieces, and aluminum for the frame/suspension.
