Alright my mother surprised me on my 18th birthday and got me a new car, a 95 grand prix. Unfortionally she did not have me look at it or have a mechanic check it out before she got it. I was driving it when i first got it and the check engine light came on. I took it in and found out it needed a new valve, a new tie rod - ball joint, and they said the exhaust was going. I payed them to replace the valve and tie rod - ball joint, however all that was going was the muffler so me and my friend put on a new one. Then the day I got my car back from the mechanic it was on again... They didnt clean the carbon i guess out after they replaced they valve. Well ive had the car for 2 1/2 weeks now and the other day my engine light came on again!! I took it in and they said it had a vacum pump leak, and they needed to reconnect some wirein coil. So they did that and the light comes on still. The light comes on after ive driven for 5 minutes or so. And if i turn the car off for a couple minutes it wont come back on. Also it turns off sometimes while im driving(thats what my father said at least) Anyone have any ideas? Mabye its just the usual electric problems Grand Prixs have... However the other day after the light came on and off I checked under the hood and it was making almost a staticy sound inside the engine.

Thanx, I apperciate the help!

o, and when they hook up the computer it to the engine it says the engine is fine.

Have you scanned it when the check eng. light is on?
Sounds like where you are taken it is using your car to put he's kids thru school. Find another place.

Don't know if it could be, but have them check the O2 sensor. The SES light kept coming on in my '99, no noticeable change in the way the car was driving, and after 3 key cycles, it would go off. When I took it to the dealership, the code it was throwing wasn't being saved in the memory. I finally got it down there while the light was on, and I had a bad O2 sensor. It came on at apparently random times, and it would go off while I was driving if it was after three key cycles.

Could be a vac. hose.
Wondering. Did they reset the computer and recheck?
