Major Transmission Problems!

I have a 98 Rodeo 3.2L 5spd 4x4.

While driving yesterday the thing got stuck in 5th gear. I couldn't even yank the sucker into neutral. Finally I stopped @ a gas station and pulled on the shifter... Well now the shifter is in neutral while the tranny is still in gear.

Any ideas how bad this is? Do i need a new transmission/rebuild hte sucker? IF so, anyone think there's a possibility of getting a 6spd?
