SW rear hatch

I have a 93 taurus station wagon. The rear hatch release inside the car does not work. I know its not cable operated so what could the problem b?

A clip holding the linkage together may have come apart or a stripped gear on the handle assembly. Only one way to find out, you are going to have to take the panel off and look.

I have a 92 LX wagon that my wife purchased without my input. There is not a single option missing on this beast. It used to get comments from the customer service department when it came in for service, so complete was its options list.

The one item that the car did not have was a rear hatch release handle by the driver's side door. It was explained to us that as a safety consideration, Ford did not install remote releases in station wagons. My car has a rear facing third seat, so maybe it is only in the case of the third seat that this applies. I honestly don't know. But I was told in '92 that the option was not available on station wagons.
