the title says it all. the lack of info here makes me want to sell the stupid benz. I guess no benz owners fix their own cars.

wow... I'm a bmw guy, what do you want? automotive principles are pretty simple. Perhaps you should look for a specialized e300 site.

I see you have started TWO yes 2 threads about your 300. One asking for vauge info on your car...which was answered. The other asking for a repair manual which was started 5 days ago and read only 14 times. Good luck with your 17 year old car that in your definition.."needs work". You will be missed.

Thanks for the update mr. obvious. err! if I asked for info on a repair manual that was never answered, this thread is in response to that. Counting this thread, that would make 3. stating the obvious should not be this hard. forget the repair manual, I'm going to gung ho it. I wanted it because of my unfamiliarity with automatic transmissions. perhaps I'm used to the eclipse forum where questions are answered and people help others out. Thanks for your kind comments, my 17 year old car and I will be just fine. by the way are you just roaming around in the benz forum or do you actually own one? nevermind, I dont really care. to the other two gentlemen who responded, I was asking for a repair manual which no auto store stocks. ebay has one but it is for a diff model and included some info on the e300. therefore not being vehicle specific, these are vague. I will order one from haynes uk.

Perhaps if you didn't tell us we all suck, you might get a nicer reply from me...As far as roaming I'm about the only one here that does answer questions, but only the ones I know the answer to. I really don't know where to get a manual for your car if Haynes or Chiltons doesn't make one. When I was employed by Mercedes(for 5 years to answer your question and I owned a S-class before I sold it) Info was pretty hard to come by outside of factory supplied literature and cd's. One thing you have going for you is your car is getting some age on it and information that once was not avaliable may be easier to come by.
I am pretty familiar with your car if you have any questions pertaining to the transmission or anything just shoot me a pm or post it and I will try to answer it....just don't tell me I suck before you ask me
PS..this link was at the bottom of the page about MB repair manuals for sale:

As a long time meber of this board, I have to agree.. the mercedes section is lacking.. Thus, go to a specialized board.... benzworld.org is a good start.

www.mercedesshop.com The best repair site out there. Benzmac is probably one of the best MB techs in the country. If he tells you something, listen.

I would help out more but I work on these cars for 10 hours a day. So basically, I don't care enough when I get home to reply to most posts. That, and I do mostly warranty work. I haven't worked on a car later than '95 in months.

About manuals, I found CD-ROM ones from Mercedes Customer Assistance Center, compiled by Series. Cost about $100 to $125 depending on the model if I remember correctly. Their number: 1-800-367-6372. I found them pretty helpful for the most part but do sometimes expect basic working knowledge of the vehicle, (or in my case a lot of time to figure things out!)

In 1988 wasn't it a 300E??? I used to have one. They didn't change it to E300 until early 90's. Good luck with that car!! My advice would be to sell it and run as fast as you can and don't look back. They were great cars back in the day but just get way too costly yo maintain. I have a 99 ML 430 now and I'm about to run from that as well. As far as the maintenace repair book goes, I could never find one for mine either.
