Hey all

Just got my ZX2 a couple days ago, and now im looking to start adding/replacing equipment.

anyway, the first thing i thought id have to do is purchase a kit to fit an aftermarket unit into the console (scosche?). is it pretty much plug and go from there? theres an amp for the speakers (correct?), can that be easily replaced?

i have the 6disc changer, and would like to keep it (saves $$ on that note). how compatible is it with aftermarket headunits?

finally, i have a sub/amp (15" RE SE powered by JBL BP1200) from my old car that id like to hook up, can i do this through the factory system until i get the rest figured?

thanks a bunch!

Don't know much about ZX2's but do you have the mach460 sound system?

It's cake no matter what you do. You'll have to get RCA line level adaptors to hook your old stuff to the OEM stereo. Also, no aftermarket stereo will work with the changer.

i was afraid of that, no biggie though

these rca line level whatnots, what exactly are they and how do i use them?

[EDIT] Actually, my amp has hig level inputs, if i just splice into the rear speaker wires, plug them into the high level, that should work, correct?

Is your amp 2ch or 4ch? If your amp has a built in x-over and is a 2ch splice the front speakers together and then the rear. If it is a 4ch then depending on how many highs you have hook each speaker up to each channel. If it is a 5ch hook up your highs as if you would a 4ch and use the 5th channel for your sub.

the amp id like to hook up is just a 1ch class d sub amp (why it has high inputs is beyond me), the car has a factory amp for the speakers (which i have yet to fully inspect).

so with this setup, is it possible to just splice into the rear speaker wire, put that into the rear high input on the amp, the LPF should do the rest, and it would work fine? or would this cause huge problems..

Not sure how your factory amps work but different brands such as Fosgate work off of each other creating a master and a slave amp.

Most cheapy amps have high level inputs so you should be fine. Don't worry about the line level then.

i ended up buying it anyway, reason was because the signal going to the speakers was already amped, and i was afraid that amping an already amped signal would cause problems

i have the adaptor now, and tomorrow i need to buy din tools to get the stereo out

now, i have the colors of the wires i need to tap into, but only out of the amp, would they be the same going into the amp (would makes sense, but you never know)

also, what should i use for the turn-on lead?

thanks.

Turn-on lead, are you talking about the remote wire? Also be aware the more coverters and adapters you have in your setup the more distorted your sound is going to be.

yeh, i ended up just hooking that up to the cigarette lighter, works like a charm

and due to the frustration that is taking out the stereo, i just ended up splicing the adaptor into the rear right speaker, after some tweaking, everything sounds awesome

thanks for the help everyone!
