Hi all i am about to purchase a Evo III turbo and was wondering if it will fit in our cars(01 RS). its a big 16g with 34mm waste gate it also comes with a turbo manifold.
check it out and let me know if this would be a good choice

No it doesnt come with the manifold. "Also Evo 3 GT comes with turbo-manifold and turbo-down pipe gaskets". They are gaskets for it. There are a lot of things to think about when turboing a N/A car. First thing to think about is what are your goals? What kind of power do you want to see or what 1/4 mile times do you want to achieve. (If you race) Second is will the engine support it, in some cases yes but not all the time. Third thing to think about is all the custom work to get everything to fit and work together. There are a lot of turbo kits out there that will just bolt on, if you're really looking to turbo your car, I would look into a kit personally. I built my car from a pile of parts. It wasnt easy nore was it for the average person. Fourth is fuel. What kind of fuel management do you plan on using and how do you plan to tune it.

Turboing a non turbo car isnt the easiest thing in the world but with the bolt on kits people make now days even a monkey could probably do it. Personally I wouldnt buy that turbo just yet. First you need to sit down and plan everything out. Dont think you can just buy a turbo, throw it on and be done.

you'll need a lot more parts to complete. i have a few of the main parts you'll need for sale.

Turbonetics- T3/T4...this is the same turbo used in the AAI and FIAS/Maxrev
1st gen turbo manifold, BOV, injectors/rail, SMIC
you can get all these for cheaper than the one turbo- PM me

In a tight nutshell- you will need a spacer to go between the manifold and exhaust ports/head. otherwise, you will not clear the starter.

after clearing the starter, you A/C lines will be in the way. either bend them some how, or remove your A/C. and since its a BIG 16G, you will most likely have to take out the A/C.

then you will have to Fab a midpipe, intercooler pipes, etc....

this is barely the tip of the iceberg. the list goes on. we havent even gotten into fuel management, wiring....... for our car, custom turbo kits are possible, but not as easy and strait foward as the kit. i just purchased a kit from donny (AAI/APP) and it is being built as you read this. install is a simple bolt on job, no second guessing.

just as an update...the AAI/Donny kit uses a T4 turbo now instead of the T3/T04 that was with the kit

ah yes. thanks for the help mang!

and syn- you might be able to get away with bending the lines somehow. another guy had taken his car to a shop and had them make/fab. some new fittings. i dont recomend bending the lines, but whatever you gotta do, you gotta do. i suggest taking the car to a shop like this guy did. you will still need the manifold spacer to clear the starter. RRE sells them. http://roadraceengineering.com/flangesandgaskets.htm

you'll still need a few more parts...mainly your exhaust. and those parts i have can be your for less than the one turbo. the t3/t4 has a much better efficency rating than the 16g, FYI. the SMIC is good for 350 whp...

I thought AAI stopped making kits? And for over all power gains I would like a turbo that will be able to support 400hp.I am not looking to get there right away but once I get money to get internals my overall goal would be 400hp. I realize that there is much more parts required getting to that level but that’s what I would like to do. And could you is the only efficiency problem with the 16g is the spool up right? And is the t3/t04 capable of pushing 400hp. I mean that is a high goal I would easily settle for 350hp so if you guys feel that the t3/t04 will be the best for my app then I will probably get it.

AAI is no longer a company. Donny designed the turbo kit that AAI sold. So it is his kit. He sells it now but not under AAI anymore.

you will need to go with a t3/t04 or a t4 to push 400whp.

i would go with the 50 trim and .63 a/r. go with an external wastegauge though.

also look into Precision and Turbonetics turbos. they are comparable to Garrett turbos

how much power could this turbo possibly make "GARRETT T3/T4E hybrid. It has a 57 trim compressor wheel,50AR compressor housing and 63AR turbine housing with a stage three turbine wheel. It comes with a 10lb adjustable wastegate." its a good price and people who have bought it are very happy i am just wondering how much power could be made.

350-400whp is probably about the max for the turbo. it should tell you on the ebay page.

dont worry about anything over 300whp until you get the internals done. Also, what model (man. or sporty) do you have?

and remember, the budget kit donny makes is, price wise, pretty competitive with your "custom" kits cost. and his kit requires no guess work. strait up bolt on- no tuning required. check this site out-

Whatever you do... Do not get the Ebay turbos like that. Sold by SSAutochrome and some other people, they are all the same. They use apoxy to hold the compressor housing together. After time and heat and boosting the compressor housing will actually separate from itself and your turbo will be shot. This happened to 2 of my friends that bought the same kit and there are people all over the internet that have pictures up of what happens. If I get some time I will look for one of the pictures and post it back up. If your looking for a 57 trim turbo, your not going to find a good one for under $600 like the Ebay turbos are going for. If you want power, its not going to be cheap, expecially turboing a non turbo. My 56 trim (turbo in my Sig) is $1365 brand new. Just gives you an idea of what your looking at. If I were you, I personally wouldnt go with that big of a turbo. A 50 trim will be plenty plus the lag isnt all that bad on a 50 trim compaired to the higher HP turbos. I get full spool around 4500rpms and I only am running 15psi right now cause I need to get it on a dyno so I can get it fully tuned. Probably will be around 4800rpms for full spool when I run 24psi. A 50 trim you can get full spool in the mid to upper 3's which I think is more streetable and better for a n/a vehicle.

Just thought I'd let everyone know about the Ebay turbos. Most of them are fine but just watch out for the same pictures and multiple auctions for the same turbo for cheap. Good luck with the turbo kit.
