Fuel injector problem --HELP

I removed my 2.8 engine from my 1986 S-10; replaced the oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, replaced the fuel filter, spark plags, plug wires, dist cap, removed some grime and re-installed the engine.

The engine turns over fine, the fuel pump is working but no fuel is being sprayed by the injectors. The injector wiring goes directly into the wire harness behind the engine and into the firewall.

Where do I start checking for the solution to activate the injectors. The engine will run somewhat when primered.

Hmm, if you turn the key to the "Run" position and can hear the fuel pump (sometimes you can't, have a friend stick his ear by the tank unless you have a mechanical pump) engage, then it might be a clogged line (probably highly unlikely) or incorrect installtion of the fuel filter. Are you sure that you stuck the fuel filter on the correct way for the right direction?

And, do you see fuel coming out of the injectors when you crank the engine over? Maybe the timing needs to be adjusted?

Hope this helps a bit, it's all I can think of.

check fuses and all grounds, double check all wiring connections.

If it's fuel injected he has to have a electric fuel pump.

Your right about the fuel filter though. I've seen more than 1 filter installed backwards (where possible) and they always think that they have bigger problems than their own small mistake

I'm working on the truck with Pete. Actually it's my truck. The problem is not a backwards fuel filter. The fuel filter actually only goes on one way (one side is threaded, the other is a nipple). More importantly, we get fuel pressure all the way up to the injectors. With the injectors out, fuel sprays everywhere.

I picked up some cheap used injectors from the junkyard just in case some grease got into the fuel line and completely clogged them somehow. With a different set of injectors, there are still no signs of life.

Tonight I built an ALDL data cable and did a scan. Sensors and the ECM seem to be functioning properly. Engine temp, battery voltage, MAP voltage, etc etc all look normal and functional.

I put a logic probe on the leads to the fuel injectors. This doesn't show voltage, current, or precise frequency, but it indicates, of the 2 leads for each injector, one is grounded and the other pulses when the engine turns over. Yet no fuel sprays out from either of the TBI injectors. Nor are there any clicking sounds or any other signs of life.

I've checked all fuses. I can't find any wires that aren't hooked up and the majority of them have connectors that only matchup with their proper counterparts. There are 2 bolts on the back of the engine that accommodate a total of 4 wires for grounding. The (-) battery cable bolts to the front of the engine. Am I missing any other grounds?

My best guess at this point is the injectors are not getting enough current.

Why would fuel injectors refuse to come to life? It seems to be electrical since there is fuel pressure and exchanging the injectors didn't have any effect.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
