Low Power

I have a 2001 GA 4cyl 2.4L.
When I turn the engine over, it feels like there is not enough power coming through to even drive it. You can press the accleration to the floor and the RPM's are getting higher but the acceleration probably only gets you to 10 or 20 mph.
I haven't checked the spark plugs yet.. really wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions before making any assumptions.

does the car have any other symptoms? your description is a little vague... The only other things that come to mind, are fuel related, bad/clogged injectors etc... or a clogged catalytic converter.

Did you get your transmission filter and fluid replaced lately?
I had a similar symptom when they put the wrong kind of tranny fluid in the car.
After I changed it to DexronIII everything was fine.

Sorry... My father's doing the work on my car and that was about all i could get out of him.
Originally when this first started.. we thought catalytic converter.. so he(my dad) changed the catalytic converter.. the old one wasnt clogged so we thought the clog went to exhaust pipes/muffler...it wasn't.
now it is still doing the same thing.. where is the transmission dip stick located? My father has worked on a lot of cars but never a Pontiac. He heard that having to have work done on the Transmission would mean having to take it to a dealership.

You wont find a transmission dipstick in your car. Thank GM for that.
On my Grand AM (3.4L) there is just a cap that you take off to pour in the tranny fluid. In order to check the level, you actually have to raise the car up on the hoist and unscrew a valve on the pan. You then pour fluid in the car until it starts coming out the valve. That is how you know there's the right amount in there.
GM claims it has "long life" tranny fluid in their cars and they should never (or very very rarely) be changed. I suppose thats the reasoning for making such a stupid set up.
As for transmission work, definetely take it either to a dealer or a place like Mr. Transmission or something to the like. It would be a good idea for them to test the tranny before you do anything drastic with it like rebuilding because once you start screwing around with the transmission, you're pretty much asking for trouble.
You may want to try to put Lucas transmission treatment in with your tranny fluid as a first step. You can get that at any aftermarket store.
Also, dont flush the tranny!! you're pretty much asking for a rebuild if you do that.
Good luck

Theres nothing wrong with flushing the tranny. Flushing the tranny is a great idea. Get all the shit out of there. I know about the stories were people have flushed a high mileage tranny and then it blew up. Well the tranny was probably gunna blow up soon in the first place. I for one have had no problems with flushing the tranny.
