Hood opening problem

Hi. Im new. Can anyone help me figure out a way to open my hood when my latch isnt working.(the thing that i pull on my dash.) I need to check to see if I have a transmission fluid dipstick because im not really sure if i have one or not...So I guess thats two problems. Any help would be great...I have an 87 Civic 4dr.

i would suggest that you either find the end of the cable inside and try and pull it with a pair of pliers or start crawling around under your car and see if you can release the latch by hand.

You can remove the metal plate under the radiator and yank on the cable to open the hood.
