Making raised lettering?

I'm working on my Eclipse model and want to make it as accurate as I can. One thing my real car has that the model doesn't is raised lettering on the engine. (fyi, it reads "16 VALVE" and "DOHC 2000")
I need to find out a way to reproduce this on the model, which is just flat plastic. Any ideas?

Some small strip styrene might do the trick. Thats how Im doing my raised lettering on my hot rod.

Or you could try "foilcasting". For that method you need the letters from somewhere ( another body emblem etc.) or you could do them of thin (0.25mm) styrene sheet. Delicate work in both cases.

Be nice if someone sold pre-made ones in different sizes, I've been wanting to make some Goodyear Eagle GT tires for my DeLorean and Fiero models...

this is gonna be pretty useless as far as help goes :) but it might help in some small way.
Towards the end of last year there was an article in tamiya magazine by a guy who added raised "casted" lettering and details to his tank models. The effect was really cool and I pretty sure it could be reapplied to reproduce the wording cast into engine covers. If i rember rightly he somehow used decal or self adhesive lettering applied to the plastic, then painted over it then rubbed off/dry brushed.
Sorry to be so vague but it might set you off in a useful direction.
I'll try and see if I still have the magazine - HTH

PS alternatively you might see if MCG or Detail Master or RMoM have some PE scriopts you could slice 'n splice ;)

Stacked up details, or PE too.

Hi I found the article alnost goty it right! :)
It was actually Fine Scale Modeler November 2004.
If you PM me with your email address I'll send you scans of tthe article (650KB) as they are too big to post here. I think it might be interesting for you.
If more people are interested - someone tell me how to post 2 files (295K and 343K) on the AF server!
They need to be that big because its a scan of a magazine ane is illegible if any smaller.
Alternatively someone could make it available on their image account (it's too big for mine  )

you could write on the back of tin foil but do your lettering backwards then when turned over it would be the right way stick to your model and paint over in the colour of your choice then give it a small drybrush over with a contrast cpolour to highlight, just tried a quick sample looks good.

if you've got cash to spare, some 'proper' modelling shops (eg. 4D in london) have an metal etching service and they can etch anything you give them (in flat graphic form) but it's quite pricey....
of course, a lot of them also sell letters and such already etched but possibly not in the scale you want but it's nice knowing you can 'make' your own set of etched letterings and badges for cars that normally aren't catered for.
