I have heard speculation that it might be with the Sultan of Bruneii, and that McLaren only has a replica of the Le Mans-winning car.
Personally, I am 100% sure (though I don't have proof) that the actual Le Mans winning car, 01R, is at the factory. I am sure they would never sell it. I can believe that they would build a replica for a special client like the SOB (lol) but I am sure they would not let him have the historic original.
I believe it was displayed at Goodwood one year--surely if it was a replica it would have been found out?

I too believe that McLaren would have retained possession of the real #01R. It surprises me they'd make a replica at all, but there are obviously two of them now.
I may have confirmaiton of that hiding in an old email exchange I had with a very knowledgeable contact in regards to which #59 is which. I know I aksed the question once before, but I don't recall if it was something they could answer. If I can't find it, I will send another request to see if I can get it confirmed.

if any of you people are active on ferrarichat (i think erik is), you can always ask audiguy
he's a former employee of the mcLaren team. has some great shots from inside the showroom as well. he might well be able to confirm who has the real #59

Just went over there and had a read...I think you mean the user yellowtr. Audiguy is friends with Mr. Beal in Texas. He is not affiliated with the McLaren factory.

My "contact" at McLaren said he was 100% sure it is the original they have in their possession.

I see no reason why McLaren would sell the car that won Le Mans. Besides, one of the reasons they got it was because it won Le Mans, if they sold it, i'm sure Kokusai Kaikatsu Racing wouldn't be too pleased

Did he say where at McLaren? There's a picture floating around of the winning driving team in front of "01R" at the McLaren Technology Center.

Nope, it's been a while since I've been in contact with him.
He mentioned it in an earlier conversation we had because I asked about Sultan's replica.
I was able to get a some unique info from this guy earlier, but havent heard anything for months now... :headshake
