Checking amp to see if blown

Hey everybody,
I have a rockford bd1000.1 mono amplifier. My old car, a 98 ford taurus, had this and two poweracoustic 1000watt fubrs with a rockford 1 farad cap. This was a great setup, sounding better then alot of other ones i heard with actual name brand subs. anywho, my problem is, it worked great from the day i bought it but, I had to remove it from my taurus before an immisions test (long story), and when i went back to install it, the taurus would shut down from the passive alarm system. when it was uninstalled it worked fine.
I checked what i could and the wiring seems fine.
What i want to know is, before i put the amp into my new car, 2002 accord v6, is there a way to test it to see if something is wrong, and if there is is there a way to replace anything on an amp internally, even if it voids warranty on the amp itself. I dont want to hook everyting up, put the keys in and fine out all the electrical system is down, which is what would happen to the taurus.
I have a voltometer that i could use but i have no idea what the proper voltage or amps or ohms shoud be coming fro the power lines of the amp.

Yeah, I'm completely lost too. Do you have a problem with the car or the amp? There is NO way even a bad amp would cause a car not to work. You gotta remember we're talking about a Ford Taurus.

Sorry if the question seems odd.
When the amps power wire was hooked to the battery, all setup with grounds and lines to headunit. When I went to turn the key, the passive alarm would go off, a clicking sound would come from the steering column. Normally the car would start right up and the interior lights would come on for a second. when the amp is hooked up, as soon as the key was turned, everything electrical shut off and the clicking sound would come back. The underlying question is, is there way to test the amplifier by checking the power and ground leads without it being hooked up to see if theres a short or other problem or does it need to be hooked up to a power source to test.
