OK I know these fuckers always shaft people, but I'm getting it much worse than normal. Let's start with my $60 English book. I go in there expecting around $15-20 for it...it's a hardcover ~1500 pages. I leave with nothing. New edition in June. Next up is the $120 Spanish book. Haven't sold it back yet, but I've heard rumors that they're offering $15 for it. And reselling it for $80. Thank you I'll sell it for $40 by myself. Fucking douche bags.

Ah yes. the everlasting school book mark up. Which is why I really think somethings in college are a rip off, but who know for sure? It is really that serious to pay $5000 a semester for school?

thats why i stopped buying text books... you can always borrow them from others when you need to look something up, and the campus library usually has a copy or two for reference.

oh yea its horrible. they offered me $3 for a $50 book i was like WTF. out of my 6 books they were only going to buy one back for $3. i i ended up keeping them all. and im w/ u 93roll. i use my book money i get back on beer for my final night at school before i come home. but since they didnt give me money back i ended up having to get cheap beer. oh well. what really made me mad though is i only had to use 3 of the 6 books i bought. so i wasted like $175 on books i didnt need and cant get any money back for.

not everyone pays $5k. yes I know. I sure as hell don't. I bought 5 books ($650 damn computer and history classes) this semester in school. We've already started buy back and guess what my total was.....$120. :confused:Why? "we haven't decided if we were going to use the particular books next semester.":eek7: Did I let them buy them back? no.

Well after it's all said and done, the bookstore gave me exactly $1.50 for the $190 worth of books I got. Fortunately, my roommate is buying my spanish book for $30, so it's not bad.
Yes that's the same Spanish book they're buying for $15 and reselling for $88.50.

Get use to it. Occasionally you'll get lucky. I think the most I've ever gotten for all my books was like $189. And that's the one time they took them all back.

The bastards have been at this game forever. New edition? All the author has to do is change 1 paragraph and 1 picture/chart per chapter to have a new edition published. (I checked with a publisher).
My worst was a $160 chemistry book that, guess what, was a new edition and was outdated after 13 weeks and therefore worthless as a buyback. Total rip off. I'm still pissed about it and it was several years ago.

So true. The worst part is the author makes only $6 on a $100 book. The publisher/retailer keeps the rest
