Hi. I have a 1997 jimmy and when I drive up steep grades with rpms around or a little over 3,000 my service engine light starts blinking, it probably does this for about 20 to 30 seconds then it just stays on. It takes a day or two of normal driving, and the light goes back out. This happened earlier and so I got a tune up done, new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Can't think of what it could be, and I can't get the codes read until it happens again. Any ideas?

What codes did you get when you pulled them up the last time this happened? If your SES light is flashing while you are driving, you are doing damage to your engine and emissions components..I would go to Autozone asap and pull the codes because your obd2 stores the codes..I would pull them up and see what you come up with.

I think last time it said something about engine misfire, does that sound right? and no, the light isn't on right now, but when it does come on, first it flashes and then stops flashing but just stays on. I'm taking it out of town this weekend and should be able to get the light to come back on, if i do i will take it right over to autozone and scan for codes. thank you very much for the advice and I'll report back when i have the codes.

Well I hope that it is nothing major..Hopefully it will be just a minor repair..Let us know what the codes are and we'll help out the best way we know how to.

Even though the light is out, the codes are still stored. Go to advance and have them scan the code(s) and we can help you better..

Hey again. I ran the OBD II autoscanner on it the other day and I think the code was PO304? or PO306? I'm not sure about the number but under the code it said "cylinder 4 misfire." I'm just wondering if anyone else has run into this before. Like I said it only seems to happen when I'm under load. Thanks!

P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

Usually that is thrown for 1 of 3 reasons

Bad/clogged injector
Bad spark plug wire
Bad Spark plug

Thanks for the input. I don't think it's the plug or wire because those were replaced recently and the light has come on before and after they were replaced. I'm not that great with cars and i was wondering how would I be able to check(clean?) injector if it is clogged? Thanks.

You can try having the injectors cleaned professionally..Then if that doesn't work I would then aim for bad injector(s)

before u chase ur tail and buy a bunch of parts check the compression on that #4 cylinder (middle plug on the passenger side) fuel injectors are an exspensive guess. u should be near 150 psi
