Transmission Grinding

I have a 2001 ZTS and lately the Tranny has been grinding. While sitting at a light if I take it out of gear, then when the light turns green thorw it into first it grinds, then as I shift into second it grinds again. The other gears don't. What could be the problem? I believe that I'm the second owner and I have not had the tranny checked since I have had it. I would like any info that may help

Thank you

Worn synchros...? One of the few things that would actually grind, and since 1st and 2nd are the most used gears, that makes sense. How many miles?

It has 57,447 miles on it. If it is the synchros, then what will I need to do to fix the problem. I believe that my after market warranty might cover this. I just need to know the main thing to look at so I can see if the warranty covers.

I wouldn't be sure if any warrenty would cover synchros, as I think that they're considered wear items, even though 54k miles is way to early for synchros to go. Regardless, at a minimum, the tranny needs to come out, and basically be taken apart. Keep in mind, that it may not be synchros, but that sounds likely considering the symptons you're describing.
