My fiance has a GTP and I was just wondering what kinds of mods you guys have done to your cars? I did a homemade CAI on her car and we're doing exhaust soon.

I would guess that nopi.com may have some simple bolt ons. What's the engine code for the GTP (i.e. LS1, B16A, that sort of code...). If it's the same one that goes into the Alero (I think...maybe the intrigue) there's plenty of more advanced things you can do.
I'd suggest taking it to a machine shop or a local performance shop to see if they can't port and polish, or extrude hone, or something like that.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

can anyone involved in this post tell me what the GTP's top speed is. if i remember correctly, the speedo goes up to like 120mph, but then theres the reflection off of the windshield. how fast have you gotten it up to and do you know what it can push.
the reason i'm asking is that i raced some kid in a gtp at high speeds and smoked him twice. the first time i hit 142mph and the second, i hit 150mph. both times i left him with multiple car lengths behind me. but when i slowed down to 80 to let hime know that i smoked him he pulled hard on me. just curious. thanks

GTPs are speed limited to 125mph.
For those interested in GTP or Regal GS mods, check out www.thrasher-ep.com . They are out of Burlington, IN and have aftermarket supercharger pullies, intakes, suspension, exhausts, brake upgrades, etc. for these W-cars.

Hello,
I havea '97 GTP,
Mods:
custom CAI, resonator & U-Bend removal, colder plugs & wires,3.4 pully, optima deep cycle battery.
other mods: boost gauge, trans temp gauge, volt gauge on a 3-pod piller (oil temp gauge will be added soon!)
On the way:
Shift kit,3.25 pully (not sure yet, I have been hearing about KR problems,12"brakes,re-program PCM)
some GTP's have reached 13's

The GTP's are speed limited to 127 by the PCM due to the tires that come stock on the car. With a reprogrammed PCM and some basic mods iits not uncommon to be around the 150 mark. I own a 97 GTP that is actually for sale. It has Borla, MSP CAI, 3.4 supercharger pulley, thrasher shift kit, MSD wires, Jacobs ignition coils... blah blah blah. If anyone wants to know more just email me. I want $11,500 for it [email protected]

I've made quite a few mods to my 2002 GTP since I bought it last September. I started with new stainless, high-flow mufflers, then did a Thrasher Cold Air set-up. Next I changed out the 3.8" supercharger pulley for a 3.4". Traded out the 195 degree thermostat for a 180. I had the u-bend in the exhaust replaced with a straight piece of pipe. The most recent mods have included tinting the glass and trading out the 16" Polished Torque Star wheels, and the shitty Goodyear banana peel for a set of 17" Borbet Type M wheels and BFG Comp TA tires.
The GTP has embaressed more than it's share of "sports cars." Nothing sucks worse than getting OWNED by a 4-door grocery getter!!

I used to check out www.grandprixstore.com when I was driving GTP's and looked like I was going to get my Dad's beautiful bright red '98 GTP sedan (Before my sister mashed it!).
Stock 3800 supercharged V6's will do well over 140 Mph without the speed limiter.

The fastest I ever had my car was 145mph with rockers, 3.25 pulley, dhp, rt down pipe and cat with u-bend removed, borla cat back, and water injection. Thats where I decided it was enough I was still climbing but I did not want to push my tires. I have a few more supporting mods my quarter mile time is now at 13.65 with a 2.1 60ft. Stop laughing at my 60ft times im still learning.

I own a 1992 GTP. My top speed is 120, and yes, i've tested this limit. Only mods I have is an upgraded stereo system. I'm working on getting more money, I want to see about adding a supercharger or maybe a turbo. I'm not sure if either one will fit but it'd be nice. I'm also looking to get a cowl induction hood. That's going to be tough to find.

Nope, the earlier GTPs had 3.4L DOHC engines. They were not S/C'd.

This is a 3.4 TDOHC
or... Twin Dual Overhead Cam.
Just means 4 controls per cam instead of 2.
Not a big deal, just more parts to break. right? lol
Thanks for the compliment on my car.

04 GTP w/ Comp G. Top spped - 142 MPH
Without Comp G -125 MPH.
Due to tire rating. Comp G v Rated tires top spped 148 MPH, therefore governed
Non Comp G H rated tires 130 MPH, definitely governed because of tire limitations.
Extremly torquey, especially off the start and excellent top end too. S/C kicks in at any speed.
In comparison, my ex-leased Intrepid R/T had no limiter with V rated tires but the speed was arrestede due to drag limitation. Slow off the start. GTP kills it however once moving, say 50MPH, the R/T is quick.

Well, when mine was stock the best I could make out of it was 120mph. After the PCM(ECU) and other things were changed I was able to push it up to 145mph and the car still was pulling but at the moment I made my point and did not push it further. I have raced Honda's and they are quick but not as quick as my GTP even Integras with Japan Spec moded engines and funny looking vinyl on their sides have been smoked easly by my family sedan. CarnutCass calls them the Grocery Getter from Hell I would humbly call it family sedan.
A CAI and maybe an intercooler are on the way so less possible any honda or Mitsu will get by me...

BTW, the numers I listed are for stock GTPs out of the plant. No mods. Quite impressive. 6.5 sec 0-60. Not bad for a 4 door sedan.
I had an Intrepid R/T whose top speed was only a couple of miles per hour quicker but where can you go 148 mph? It all has to do with the tire rating. The car companies will limit the top end based on the equipped tire rating. If H rated tires are standard, the car is governed to 125. If S rated tires are standard, the speed will be higher.
Funny story. On the Intrepid forum, a guy from the Tampa area owned an Intrepid R/T Motorsport. Some interior decoratons, exterior decals and yellow writing (Goodyear) tires. He decided to race a camaro and at 120MPH, his limiter kicked in. He says wtf, I though R/ts don't have limiters. We told him to check the tires and sure enough, the Goodyears Chrysler puts on the Motorsports were not V Rated (S rated) SO he goes to the dealer to have the computer reprogrammed and they wouldn't do it. Against the law. So he'll have to wait until he needs new tires (V rated) and hopefully they will do it then, however I doubt it.
I prefer the quick start off the line in the GTP.

If your car has the stock PCM the SES light might be related to a prolonged time running at a high speed. Cause the OEM tires are not rated for speeds above 140MPH and you know how automakers are about safety. It is the only thing I could think off. I am glad you smoked the Audi

Ripn12s I tought he said that the code were missing not that the car was misfiring. Sorry for the language gap. If the car was misfiring could be the sparks, the cables or even the coils. Any of that
Ripn12s

If you feel a misfire or pull SES light for a misfire there are steps to take.
Scan the car and see what plug is missing 1-6
Replace plug.
If still missing, switch the problem plug's wire w/ another one and see if the misfire moves to the other plug. If so then replace wires.
Always start w/ the cheapest part.
You dont want to replace coils or wires before trying the actual plugs

since iv had the car iv replaced the wires and coils--thinking i would get better performance(not noticable at least) from 8mm wires and hotter coils. recently i installed a colder autolite plug(605's)--and that was before the SES light came on. the car runs fine tho.. is there any way i can use an ohm meter to test the resistance of the coils to see if one is bad?

605's are one heat range colder right??
Maybe you should go w/ the 104's, Ive have nothing but good luck w/ them.
