Hey guys, this'll really show how new I am to all this...
I've been reading these boards for a few days now, and was just looking through a parts catalog and have been seeing engines labeled as LT-1, LS-1, etc.
What's the difference?
'Cuz I'm looking for a performance chip (trying to get some more HP for the least $) and all the chips I saw are for the LT-1 or LS-1. Now, I have a '95 3.4 V6. Do either of these apply to me? And if not, any suggestions as to how I get better performance while either maintaining or increasing gas mileage?
Thanks

the LT1 and LS1 are the v8 models for the 4th generation camaros. the LT1 being from 93-97 and the LS1 being from 98-02. your engine is the 3.4L v6, or L32.
*if you are looking for a good little gain in performance while maintaining your current gas mileage like you said, i would look into a cold air intake, they are actually supposed to improve gas mileage and give you a small increase in hp. some of the more popular brands of CAI's are K&N, SLP, Moroso, etc.. if you need any other information, check out FirebirdV6.com. they have a ton of info and links to sites with parts. Otherwise if you already know what you want, check ebay, there are usually some good deals there.

If you are looking into performance chips for our cars it's pretty much useless. There are programming products out there but as far as I've looked into them most don't cover our cars and the ones that do are extremely expensive. If you do find one that looks good besure to let me know though, I need some more ideas of ways to pour money into my car this summer.

I hate to say it, but you have a choice. Its either preformance or gas mileage.
What you can do, without doing any mods to the engine, is change your gear ratio. If you want preformance, increase the gears, and if you want gas mileage, decrease the gears.
For gear ratio, its x amount of turns on the engine per 1 turn of the wheel. So for example, 3.23 gears gives you 3.23 turns of the engine per 1 turn of the wheel. Hopefully this will help you see how increasing the gears will give you better preformance and decreasing better gas mileage.
/edit: What I should say, by preformance, is quicker acceleration, and a lower top speed. If you put 4.10 gears into a car, you might max out at 150 mph, but you will get there pretty damn fast. Now if you put, say 2.73 gears in, you will be able to go almost 200 mph, but it will take you a while toget up there.

Not always true, for example exhaust is known to increase your gas milage and apparently intakes do too (cant speak on bhalf of that one). also jumping from 3.08 gears on an open diff to 3.42s on a limited slip I didnt notice any gas milage change.

Going from 3.08 to 3.42 there is a gas mileage change, its not going to be as drastic as if you went to 3.73 or 4.10, but you should notice it.
Read above for why.

I'm telling you from experience here. Formulas (mathematical) are like dyno numbers, theyre nice and all but when you do a real life application it may perform completely different

Guys.. great info.
How do I change the gear ratios? and what mods can I do to the intake? I know exhaust systems are pretty expensive, the ones I looked at anyway. Any money saving options out there?
