My trans is whining now.....

I recently replaced my 83-944's trans mounts, and along with that started stripping the interior for weight reduction, and heard a bit of noise. After opting to have new axles and a clutch installed, my shop said the final drive was making a small bit of noise and remedied the problem with race grade gear oil, to withstand arizona heat. My trans still makes the noise, mostly in the first 3 gears, I can hear it wind up as it makes a whirring sound. Could this be becuse I have no sound insulation in my car anymore? Is it normal to hear the transmission a bit? Anyone who has any knowledge on this matter please let me know. I can afford another trans, but I wanna know if I can beat this one up for a bit longer....I'm assuming its still a problem with the trans, resulting from the broken mounts I replaced after I bought it. I'm gonna have the car for a LONG time...so any work is no issue for me.

yes, as long as it's not really loud and is only a whirring noise it's OK. you shouldn't hear it with the sound proofing installed. so if it's only started since you removed it, it should be OK. if it's really loud, starts clunking or making any other weird noise then it's not normal.
