First of all, sorry if this was asked somewhere else. I tried to search with no luck at all. I just want to know some of the things you would all change out of b18b1 engine to make like new again. Would I want to get, say a compression test done on the engine before even starting such an adventure?
My 96 ls has a good 141,000 on it and I want to make sure everything is rock solid before I do any modifications. Belts have all been changed and it looks as though hoses have as well. The engine bay looks freakin brand new and when I took it in for an oil change they were amazed at the condition. It already has aem intake, as well as 2.5 exhaust...might be 2.25. I heard somewhere that a used block can be stronger than a new one. How much does it cost to get your engine sleeved, or fortified for xtra hp, and would I even need to in order to strive for 250-300hp. I'm looking to go f/i obviosly.
Any help would be great...thanks in advance.

compression leakdown. the cost to replace all the components in the entire bottom block with oem parts including maintenence components is expensive. if your gonna go with boost and aim at 300hp on the b18b1 and want protection, some stronger rods and pistons will do a good job. you can sleeve if you if you have the money. a compression and leakdown will tell you if your engine needs surgery ;)

Thanks for the info. Where would I get a compression leakdown and how much are we talking to get it done. 300hp is deffinately on the high side of my goal. I want to do rods pistons and lifters. Would I want to change the seals as well? I read on this forum that b18b1 can take 10-12 psi on stock internals as a daily driver. Will I make near 250 with 10-12 psi?
I also understand that I will need to upgrade fuel system so that I don't starve the engine with the f/i. Do rails and injectors come with most turbo kits or are they something I am going to have to do seperate along with the pistons, rods, and lifters.

If I am looking for stablitity would I be better off looking more into supercharger? Plust I am looking for low end torque more than high end horsepower....so is spc better? Is it more expensive?

Ok it's not like I don't search for the info. Why do you waste posting space and my time by writing , "search"? If you have nothing to say than don't.
