I bought a 86 4runner w/ a blown head gasket. It ran good. I replaced the head gasket, and am having trouble timing. It might have slipped a tooth, so I moved the chain a tooth on the cam gear. It will time, but now runs like crap. A I a couple questions:
1) What is the correct way to Time it. I,ve read different things. The manuals all say connect from 2 different terminals on the check connector. As far as I can tell, an 86 does not have this connecter. I read online Jumper the round yellow 2 terminal connector. Is this correct for this model year.
2) What should it be set at with the teriminal jumped? Ive read 5, 8, 12 btc. What is correct. The manual says 5 degrees.
3) exhaust valve noise is now pretty loud. I have adjusted valves, but want to get timing correct first. Do I have other problems in this area!
Any advice would help!! Thanks
