Hey Everyone! I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. The Front Left Speaker is not working! I know this is a common problem. I would just like to confirm that it is a WIRING problem. And if this really is the most probable diagnosis, where is the wiring fault (speaker, hinge, stereo)? Does anyone know of any articles regarding this problem or any fixes? Any questions answered is much appreciated!!! Thanks!

not sure if it is the same, but my 1993 had the same issue 1 week ago, it was the connector under the dash on driver side near the hood release, the connector just came apart, plugged it back together and she is working

SWEET!

But Hey, were you having the same left speaker problem?? And if so, where was the wire worn? I just don't have the time or the money to invest in a new system.

Thanks!

Wiring is only 1 reason why it wouldn't work. Have you pulled the door panel yet and checked inside?

Mine didn't work but the speaker itself was bad. The paper cone had disintegrated as well. I spent $20 at Walmart buyng some cheapo speakers and changed out both sides.

This apparently happened on my '00 Sport.... the left speaker died and the previous owner had the wiring redone. I think what happens is the speaker wiring breaks in the door hinge area. Since the drivers door gets used the most, the left speaker wire gets bent back and forth more often and eventually breaks. Sounds pretty lame but I am amazed at how cheaply Chrysler put these vehicles together.

Whoever did the repair simply used clear zip cord (18 ga lamp cord). The new wire was spliced into the speaker feed, about and inch from the connector, as it came out the back of the radio. The new wire was fed through the rubber bellows tubing in the hinge area and connected to the speaker.

check the connection first, much easier to look under the dash, than pull the panel :2cents:
