Well probably some of you know this, but Chinese filmmakers are making a REAL Initial D Movie. The trailer is pretty awesome. Check it out:

I've heard about the movie being made... first time seeing any trailers for it though...

Looks like they're taking the time to do the series justice... Hope to see it soon myself.

I've known about it, but my crappy lil' 56K chugs like a bitch every time I load the page. Haven't gotten past the front page yet... :)

Only thing that gets me thus far is the description about the Movie...

For those of you who haven't/can't read it...

"It's a story about the fastest street racer of Mt. Akina. Takumi, a delivery boy, Ryousuke, an engineer of speed: and Kyouichi, a professional racer. The three of them become duelists of drifts.

For five years, 18-year-old Takumi has been delievering tofu in his fathers's obsolescent Toyota AE86 every morning. Not only has he become a good racer, but he as also unwittingly perfected the art of drifting.

He was never an aficionado of hill racing until he was asked by his father to drive his AE86 in a Davind and Goliath race against Night Kids' EVO IV. A glorious but unexpected victory awakens the competitive genes in his blood, while his overnight fame inevitably leads to hellraising races one after another, each one more perillous and exciting than the previous one."

Ok... wtf is that all about? It's not really even close to the original. I can understand small differences in the story... but in the manga and animated series... the story was basically the same.

This is soo far off. It'll be hard to watch it in my opinion if they go with this route. Cause I'll keep thinking to myself, "this is all wrong... it never happened like this."

They probably fashioned up that story to keep the audience interested. The beginning of the series was pretty boring, so they needed something that was a bit more riveting.

I haven't been looking into the torrents lately, but I'm pretty sure somebody has a bootleg out there already.

You could also try LimeWire.

I love Initial D, but I hated the movie. and here is why...

SPOILERS INCLUDED BELOW. DO NOT READ PAST HERE IF YOU WANT THINGS HIDDEN!

First with the lack of some of the core characters. For example, the film is neglecting Keisuke Takahashi. So besides excluding the sick yellow FD that we've grown to know and love, it removes the primary rivalry in Initial D between Keisuke and Takumi.

The comradery between Nakazato and Ryosuke Takahashi was disturbing. Not only because they are both on rivaling street teams, but also because they both (well at least Nakazato has a dislike for Takahashi) don't get along in the anime/manga

Some other minor characters, like Shingo, Iketani and Kenji were missing as well, and although they aren't core, like Keisuke, they are part of the glue that holds the ID universe together. So I was disapointed in that.

Next, I really hated how they protrayed the street racing teams. The teams looked more like they came from the movie "Grease" than actual Japanese street racers. For example, the Night Kids, all drove black R32 GTRs, and all wore the same lame black jackets with yellow that said Night Kids on the back. Initial D, dispite the fiction, is supposed to relate to RL street racing and that was just pathetic. WTF was with the Emperors and that fucked up carrier they used to carry the EVO III? Like it was damn carnival. Complete vomit.

Another thing was the mismatching of vehicles in ID. Another example. It's not Iketani in his S13 that trains and crashes for his battle with the Redsuns like in the anime/manga. that lines up to race the Redsuns, like in the anime. Get this, Itsuki ends up with an S13 in the movie and races against Nakazato in his R32 GTR, with Ryosuke driving shotgun with him! It's rediculous. Not only that, Takumi is riding with Istuki, who ends up crashing the S13 during the race, but of course able to drive it home <VOMIT> Also instead of getting the infamous Hachi-Go, he gets a Treuno instead!!! ARGH So...WRONG

I could go on forever, but it was complete dreck....

Well I thought the movie was worth the wait.

Basically they were giving us the same Initial D formula: good racing scenes surrounded with a slightly boring, thin storyline. That's all I asked for, and that's what I got in the movie.

And I must've missed the Evo III carrier scene, or I just wasn't bothered enough to mention it. Was it some ugly Isuzu flatbed or something? I totally forgot.

It was better than the F&F movies, at least.

Yeah it is better that F&F movies but I did hate it for all the character mess but overall it's Initail D!!!I still love the movie.
