My wife bought a new S2000 yesterday. The dealer put his tag on the front of the car. She thought the tag connected by a u-shaped bracket from underneath. When she got home and asked me to take the tag off for her we found out that 4 holes had been drilled through the front bumper. I called the dealer to tell him we were bringing it back and he said they could work out something. He suggested plugging the holes and repainting the bumper or replacing the bumper. I told him the only option was replacing the car. Car has 175 miles on it. The thing about it my wife told them not to get her a car that somebody had put a tag on. He got it from a dealer about 100 miles away. It's going to be interesting when I take it back today. I would post a pic of the holes, but I don't know how to do that yet.

Wayne....all you need is to buy the matching pluggs for front bumper license plate holes. Cost ~5 each.

that sucks. I have taken my car to a dealership before. the dealer took the old tag, from where I got the car, off my car, and replaced it with his. when I saw this, I walked up and asked for my old tag. they told me they htrew it in the trash. I was pissed. I know its just a dealers advertising bracket, but to me, it was the principle of the matter. they took something that was mine, threw it away, and replaced it with theres, and never onced asked me.
so, when they handed it back, I ripped theres off, threw it on the ground, and attached the old one back on.
I still can remember the look on the guys face when I did that. it was like I just slapped him in the face.

I would only return the car if they could not replace the painted bumper. That was their mistake. When you bought the car there were no holes in the bumper (and probably no dealer decal on the rear)

If you spend $30000+ on a car that's in mint condition....you don't want anyone drilling any holes in it. Especially if you special ordered one from a dealership 100 miles away simply because it didn't have holes drilled in it for a tag. Don't you think that the salesman would have gotten the hint not to put a tag on this car....if he didn't already get the clue, he will when the car's returned.

I would just tell them you want a new bumper. Speaking as someone who has done my fair share of work at stealerships, it's a lot less hassle for you and for them if you let them replace the bumper instead of the whole car. But yes, they should replace the bumper for free considering what you get a new car, you expect it to be in mint condition. I mean, that's the point of buying a new car, right?
