tappet clearance

got my engine back together, it runs very smoothly other than the noise from the tappets.

I have a feeler gauge, what should the clearance be?. any difference when the engine is hot or cold?

should be done cold and the Intake should be 0.007-0.009 in.(0.17-0.22 mm ) same for the auxilliary valve if you head has it and the Exhaust should be 0.009-0.011 in. (0.22-0.27 mm )
